The first bike that was all my own was an absolute dog of a CM125 that I bought when I finally started the process of going 'legit' and getting the CBT. Up to that time I had learned to ride on a variety of machines borrowed from mates. As soon as I passed the CBT I ditched the CM as, being a big laddie, it could barely pull me along the road and so I picked up an old CB250RS and rented a 125 for getting my full licence. I suppose I really consider the CB250RS to be my first bike and I loved that old girl, sadly she was written off after about a year when I slid off on black ice (for the third time on the one winter morning) and the Ford Fiesta behind me sent it into orbit.

Her untimely death was unfortunate. But in hindsight makes for a great story

It looked good but ran poorly. In the states we would park it outdoors and call it lawn art.

1984 Honda Shadow 500 (not my bike in picture), when I was 17, loved that bike. 6817FFBB-D5D5-4162-9FAC-7E5EF0737A5F.jpeg

I did not know that. I know for a 500 I did quite well, had more power than the Yamaha Virago 750 a had many years later. I only had my shadow for a couple years before I sent it down the road without me one night. Still don’t know what happened to this day. Whole day, gone from my mind. No broken bones, but a whole lot of soreness for weeks to follow.

Not Farnham or Guildford. We were coming up Bridge St and going straight on, which you cant do any more due to pedestrianization. :)

On the subject of first bikes I was wondering. When I bought the little 250 I wanted to be certain of not going too large. Anyone here have a large capacity bike as a first bike. If so did you love it, hate it, regret it?

This was my first bike...closely followed by this...and then it all went downhill from there.

    Enfield crusader I do believe.
I swapped my first bike (B25SS) for a Enfield GT Continental that had been bored out to +60. Luverly boy-racer bike that went like stink and handled like a dream. 5 speed box was a pain with the 10 neutrals in it. :grinning:
