I use old scrap carpet from flooring jobs which I change possibly every few years. It keeps the place warmer than plain concrete. I have around a 50amp 240v supply to my workshop from the house which I run strip lights, a compressor 2 1/2hp, medium MIGwelder, Tig welder and various heaters electric/diesel. I also have an air assisted bike bench which gets used for everything although I generally use it manually. I use an overhead hot air central heating which is a chinese camper van heater. In the back room I have kitchen worktops all way round with pillar drill and various other equipment. Does that paint an idea?

That sounds awesome, I'd never thought about putting carpet in the garage until this thread.
I guess the only time yo need worry is when the welder is out. It should help with comfort a lot more.
How is your airlift? I'm really interested in getting ideas for that.

My brother found for me in an old garage a thick (1cm) rubber carpet. Colder than real carpet, weight a ton, but perfect for a workshop.

Strangely enough I use it manually mostly as it’s quicker than waiting for the compressor to build up. I got it with the air spec in case I ever get another commercial workshop.
As for welding on carpet get an old wool one from the skip at a carpet showroom for free, it doesn’t melt just singes. Get patterned
