Just an update the ebay offer was turned down but still available.

Still looking for any guys near Durham that would be so kind as to do an inspection for me. Cheers

I'm off to see the Thundercat in a bit the guy is looking at around £1350 which for 7k miles is not bad.

I'm not sure on it as a commuter vs the Fazer. From the reviews online the power appears to be distributed evenly and would appear to be commuter friendly. Any thoughts?

    Hi,
Sorry coming to this thread late in the day!

My lad has a Fazer, and his pal followed suit, commutes and rides out, solid bike.
Bought in a small dealer , chipped the price and extended warranty paid a dividend as rank had leak at 3months and they had to spray up and supply a new one..

It’s in the top 5 of starter/used bikes when we checked it out, as a few have said here..seems a good bike, but mileage high, there are probably better deals on them, pay a bit more, but get a lot more!!

    Good luck with your choices.

Went last night with the Thundercat with 7000 miles!

Was in great condition. My neighbour who knows the basics came along and couldn't believe its age. The chap does up bikes as a hobby and when doing some building work came across it abandoned in a shed. Apparently it scared the owner and he just left it there for a few years!

Couldn't get the price below £1350 but in fairness given the condition it seemed a fair price with the great work he'd done.

I'll post photos when I can sort the hosting as picr doesn't seem to work for me anymore and my files are too large for the forum.

Very smooth ride apart from the suspension is very soft , which is a trait apparently. Filled me with confidence enough to do some serious filtering after an accident on the M6 this morning.

I do miss my 2011 Striples first gear though as neither my new one or the Thundercat like a quick start.

    Big thanks to everyone above.

It looks too good to use as a winter hack mate, you will have to use the Triumph instead. Lol
Or buy another old wreck to ride in the winter

    Cheers.

My neighbour was impressed with the new Striple but says it's a proper bike haha

Belated pictures of the my new baby. It needs to come out from the under lock and key since a week last Saturday (curses crappie English summer).

Right fingers got a bit burnt on this one.

With all the excitement of finding a local bike I failed to do a HPI check (stupid I know). And this has revealed a CAT C status in 2000.

I'm not overly gutted as it seems a great bike and you can see the condition from the photos. The buyer had it a year but may not have checked himself so I can give him the benefit of the doubt. He seemed an honest fellow not in the best of health and was clearly working on multiple bikes as a hobby.

He's agreed to keep in touch as kindly said he'd service for a small fee and fit some grips FOC. I may give him a call and mention this is in a none aggressive way. This obviously has an impact on the price and insurance value my insurer places on it (or does it in terms replacement??) but I've no idea given the condition and mileage what the true value is.

I'm annoyed the classified ads from the paper do no checks or if I was to be cynical is this why it's not advertised on autotrader or gumtree as they check?

I'm going to pull him up for sure and will gage his reaction.

How he handles it will say everything about it. Looking in to who did the MOT they have some critical reviews online so that's not confidence inspiring. Bike has been golden though even in atrocious weather today.

May be tempted to get another MOT/service for peace of mind though depending on how the above conversation goes.

Morally I think the advertising platform should have some liability as they are obviously helping to promote the vehicle.

I wouldn’t be overly bothered by the Cat C from so long ago if the condition now is as good as it looks in the pics and she rides ok.
At the end of the day, it’s nearly 20 years old and the value will have pretty much bottomed out anyway which is why it’s a cheap hack.
I’d say you’ve got a decent deal despite this new info, so if it were me I wouldn’t alienate the seller by mentioning it especially if he’s willing to help you out with cheap labour. ;)

Thanks Freck. Can't help feel the price should have reflected this but hey ho you leave and learn I suppose.

If he's willing to service still and keep in touch that is reassuring. Suppose you can't help but be a bit paranoid these days but the condition as you say is excellent (and my neighbours who's owned multiple bikes over the years looked over and agreed).

I bought a early r1 a few yrs ago it wasnt until I came to sell it that I found out is was a cat c when it was 2 yrs old. I think its a case of buyer beware I dont think by law they have to declare it.
