I have never owned a Honda in all of my years of riding, definitely adding it to the list,
I think it may take some time to find the right bike, deeper we get into winter maybe there will be less competition for these bikes.
    Thanks for your suggestion.

If you are tempted by that or the CBR650f you initially mentioned, what about a post 2010 CBR600F? A bit more power than the 650 but very similar ergos. Most adverts say "Super Sport" but in reality it is closer to a Sports Tourer. Loads within your budget.

I ride my Street Scrambler all year round but being retired I don"t have a commute so can pick my days. For a cummuting hack I'd also go along with a CBR600, or at least anything with a full fairing. You can coat the engine, frame and electrics etc with ACF50 or Corrosion Block and pretty much forget it 'til Spring. The fairing will keep the majority of the road crap off the engine and will be easy to wash down. A lightweight Trail bike with decent tyres also makes a good Winter hack, not much good for track days obviuosly but a bit of Winter green laning maybe?
