Just a routine oil + filter + air filter change + the mandatory 45 mile ride to check that I'd screwed everything back together correctly and put enough oil in.:joy:

An added bonus of todays spannering was I finally found the missing garage door key I'd been turning the house upside down for.........it was stuck to the underneath of the feckin' magnetic parts/tool tray I last used some weeks ago!:mad::mad::mad:

I rode 50 miles in the pouring rain this morning to take my Street Triple for its service; picking it up next Saturday as it's easiest so hopefully the weather will not be quite as vile then!!

Reposting an earlier post that I put in the incorrect thread. Apologies for the repeat to anyone who saw this already.
    ************************
We had a nice little Sunday ride group this morning and my Speed Triple was up in the ride queue. We met up at 7:30am and it was beautiful--nice and overcast and cooler temps than we've had for the past several weeks. Although it looked like we'd get pummeled with rain, we managed to avoid getting wet. However, over Gates Pass the storm had clearly just passed through minutes before we did as the road was completely wet. So we "tiptoed" our way up and over the twisty parts with rock face on one side and a precarious drop-off on the other. We saw some lighting off in the desert in the distance and could see rainstorms dotting the horizon. It was spectacular! A riding buddy was trying out a new GoPro so if he got some photos I'll post them here.

All in the group agreed to make today's ride a bit shorter than usual based on what the skies looked like. So we went to one of our regular haunts, Coyote Pause, which is a favorite of mine. It was quite quiet there this morning, probably because the skies looked so threatening.

Although some of us typically take the long way home, this time we all opted to take the shortest route. Everyone at the table except for one will be hitting the road to Sturgis bright and early this coming Saturday morning. So we'll get in enough riding (although I think that's an oxymoron for me) during our road trip. So, todays ride was a shortie...but a goodie! And it was only 88ºF when Steve and I pulled into our garage. :sun::)

How lucky you are to have so many regular riding buddies, Sandi. Sturgis has really come around quickly too - you must be so excited (and Steve, given that he'll be debuting his brand new bike)!

Had to plug in the Dealertool again today after the SS threw up another MIL fault. This time it was P0053 which I think is the oxygen sensor in the LH header pipe. It came on 2 mins into a 45 min, 25mile ride with no discernable difference in running or performance. I ran all the available tests both before and after clearing the code and they all passed. The MIL light stayed off after disconnecting the tool although I didn't actually ride it anywhere so I'll have to keep an eye on it. The bike is, theoretically, still under warranty although I've done the last two services myself so that could potentially put the kybosh on any dealer co-operation. I'm sure I've read somewhere that there is a "sensor delete" fix available so I may look into that it looks like I'm having to fork out £140 for a new one.

Yes, @learningtofly, I count myself a very lucky indeed, to have such great riding buddies. Both Steve and I are very excited for our upcoming Sturgis trip! And Steve is even more excited because of his new bike. Our plan is to be on the road at 6:00 AM Saturday morning. But…we may already have one change to our plans. We heard on the news earlier today that there is a large fire just off the Beeline Highway south of Payson, which is right on our route. We do have an alternative route that we can take if the road remains closed. I was mostly just really sad to hear about the fire. Several years ago there was a massive fire at the south end of that stretch of road that killed hundreds and hundreds of saguaros. Anyway, I suspect that won’t be the only plan change, but that’s part of the adventure, right?! ;):)

I hope that your bike remains happy once you actually take it out for a ride after getting the code to clear!

Another 40 odd mile round trip again today with both high speed dual carriageway riding and heavy traffic and no MIL light.:) The MIL light came on just after starting the bike a few weeks ago which threw up code P011B which AFAIK is the intake temp sensor. Similar procedure, connect Dealertool, run tests, clear code and no MIL light.
I reckon the Dealertool has paid for itself already, not to mention the added convenience factor of being able to DIY.

Dealertool for me any day of the week. I was due to have my STRS re mapped and set up on the rolling road, however 2 points I became aware of (1) the set up required opening up the ECU, by that I mean literally cut it open to access the board, then once done re seal it, also the Dealertool would not function correctly so I won't be going that route, instead I am going to fit the Rapid Bike EVO myself as this does not affect the ECU, at least this will sort out the lean fuelling (blasted EU emissions regulations).

As for riding buddies, I have come up short the last few years. Some have left the area, one of those had already moved to Arizona, then passed away. My oldest fellow rider is still here in the area, but has sold his bike for medical reasons. We have been friends for some 65 yrs. Tough being the survivor. At almost 78, I can still get it down the rode, but most of my friends cannot handle it anymore. ...J.D.

That is really sad, but I guess as we get older friends do pass which is inevitable. But good on you for keeping going.

After a wet ride home from our club northern meeting, last night, I gave the bike a quick clean and my exhaust header covers arrived from US :sun: Very nice and retro look

A bit of spannering today with a new TEC 202 cam.

    20230727_150722.jpg

Look how much fatter the lobes are? (longer duration)

Old cam getting left out. The job requires x2 shims that I haven't got, so will now need to be completed next week as I'm busy with other things : unamused:

This is in a 900 motor? We will be interested to hear what you think of it once you’re back on the road.

    And @Wire-Wheels

    Yes 900 cc street twin.
All the reviews I've read speak very highly of the Tec 202 cam, mine is the latter version of the gen one's; you need to reference the chassis last 6 digits.
    A simple visual assessment reveals the following;
    1. The duration and so width is quite a bit more.
    2. One review said it didn't increase lift but my eyes said otherwise so I measured them with a digital vernier (Mitutoyo).
    Inlet + 1.6mm
    Exhaust + 0.7mm
    3. The standard cam had a concave negative slope so not only is the duration short but the closing ramp snaps the valve shut faster. ( bear in mind my cam picture is left side view and the cam goes backwards to convention).
    4. The Tec product looks of good quality with a nicely engineered finish and looks the part. Installation was straightforward with a good TEC youtube video created (dubious sound in places) which was ideal for a quick reference i.e. torque settings etc.

I reckon that will make a nice difference on the 900! I put one in a 1200 thruxton, it opened up the top end on that engine but I think it will have an effect everywhere on the 900.

The 900 is quite torquey as is @andyc1 but overtaking is iffy as you soon run out of productive revs. I think this is the first bike I've had where you change up a gear o_O before pulling out, not down a gear.
This should extend the rev range power wise as it was quite asthmatic as supplied by Triumph.
In my opinion, the marketing department capped it off to make the 1200's look better.
