Fitted new front wheel bearings today and went for a test ride :) Unfortunately the noise I hoped to fix was still there :( So did what I should have done originally and found a hill on a quiet country lane and freewheeled down with engine off and no helmet so I could hear. Dominant noise was a loud rattle from drive-chain sprocket.

When I got home I had bike on paddock stand to spin the wheel and chain was very rattly from both sprockets and there was a humming noise from middle of chain run. I reckon when riding I’m hearing the humming noise and helmet with earplugs blocking the rattling part of the noise.

To make sure there was nothing amiss, I had front sprocket cover off and wiggled the sprocket, just in case I hadn’t torqued it up properly when changing it. Sprocket was rock solid, so I guess I’ll just have to try and ignore the noise when riding.

How long has your chain been on? I just checked - I bought my bike with 15.000 miles on it, currently the odometer is showing 36.300 miles. So that's 21.300 miles of use, and I do not know how many miles were on that chain when I bought it. It's still fine, I reckon.

I replaced it (and sprockets) 3 months ago, it's done about 4,000 miles since and is adjusted and aligned right.

I've just ordered bearings for rear and will replace those too when I get rear tyre replaced in a month or two. (Bike's done 45k miles and now I've bought tools for fitting bearings seems wise to change rear too.)

I hope you somehow finally get that noise figured out, @brown mouse. An undiagnosed noise from an unknown source can be so aggravating and it seems to wind up being a focal point of attention each time you ride the bike. Fingers crossed that you get it sorted.

Nice shiny new sprocket and chain and a new Pirelli Sport Demon on my Bonnie. I'm sure it's just phycological but it all feels much tighter and crisper to ride.

Solo trip to Aberdyfi today (Helmut is working), through some of Snowdonia National Park; I fancied seeing the sea. We’re landlocked so it was about 220 miles ridden - beautiful weather, great roads and beautiful scenery too; a superb day out :). It wasn’t raining but clearly had been as the roads were pretty wet with water running across them in places so my bike is FILTHY o_O.

I don’t have many photos as I stopped briefly on the way there for a quick leg stretch and once on the way back for a quick coffee but it was a stunning ride in the main.

Well, that was a bugger to get out. My tube pulla-outa didn't work this time (good job I never patented it) So I threaded it but the flared section broke away. Got the little bugger using the long threaded bar and nut secret weapon, that'll teach it - straight in the bin :)

Cleaning it....my beautiful bike perfectly executed it's party trick of throwing all of the standing water / general crap up and over the back of itself and the rider during our lovely day out yesterday o_O.

Precisely why I think fender deletes and shorty mudguards are rather silly; pretty yes but as an ex-engineer I see it as the very definition of form over function. I learned the lesson of short mudguards on my racing bicycle that I used to ride to school, starting the day in autumn, winter and spring with muck in your mouth and a wet backside just isn't pleasant:confounded:.

This is why I changed the rear end of my street cup to the full rear mudguard (along with the much better-looking Lucas style taillight) of the T100, and fitted Triumph’s fender extender to the front mudguard.

Anyway, each their own, your Street Triple is extremely good looking:), when it's not covered in crud;).

@Helmut Visor always says the short tail without a rear mudguard is form over function - he will more than agree with you there!! I also happen to agree that it IS form over function....but I really love that bike's form ;). Admittedly, much less so when covered in crud.....oh the things we must suffer for beauty :p. I would describe myself as a practical person, blessed with enough logic to get by...but perhaps I need to think again!!

And yes....I think many of us learned the lesson of short (or removed) mudguards on our bicycles as children.....but again at least the bike looked cool (if not the rider....) o_O.

Very balanced view Mrs Visor, they are one model I would put up with a shorty if not no rear guard.:p I usually extend them on most bikes:cool:

Today I did my favourite 200+ mile jaunt to the east coast, it was a perfect Autumn day, blue skies, leaves turning a golden colour but not yet falling and making road slippy :)

    1.jpg

At start of journey had engine cut out at 70 on dual carriageway :scream: Fortunately not much traffic and had space to pull left and time to coast and de-confuse myself. After about 10 seconds thought to hit starter and engine fired into life, was fine for rest of day. Not sure what that was about. In past, I’ve pulled clutch and killed engine when moving (to listen for mysterious sounds) and the engine has fired into life just by releasing clutch. That didn’t happen today, took an active press of the starter.
