Commute for me today....had a weird experience on the way home. Large dead birds all over the road in one section and other birds struggling to fly - flying into vehicles, landing on the road and getting hit etc. Really odd, took a bit of concentration dodging big carcasses and trying not to get flown into by the still - living.

Commute again today; very uneventful compared to yesterday's shenanigans :).

I escorted the mrs. to work this morning for her to get some motorway experience. Then I picked her up again this afternoon and took a scenic route home.

Thankfully not, if I hadn't been working on my own for the latter part of yesterday I would be wondering whether a colleague had put anything in my coffee before I rode home .

I needed some new gloves, so took it to a bikeshop. Got some nice Dane goretex gloves, and a pair of new earplugs.

    Yesterday actually.

8:30am start with two others (Paul on his Bobber and Stefan on his Honda NC750) from A49 in North West Cheshire along A556 towards Chester pick up A55 towards North Wales and then several B roads to The Old Stores for breakfast:yum.

    IMG_2830.jpg

Then off past Ponderosa Café, down the Horseshoe Pass (shame about the forty limit but still pleasant) to Llangollen, on to A5 for a bit (way too many cars and lorries, so cut left A and B roads towards Wem for coffee, tea, Hot Chocolate:yum (I'm getting old!) at The New Maltings café.

Here I take a moment to check my texts and hear from my eldest daughter that she had passed her driving test on her second attempt that morning! Only four minor faults (you're apparently allowed up to 15!).

This is great news because she's beginning a career as a zoo keeper aiming for work with carnivores (bears especially:cool:) and this opens up many more jobs. Its taken ages due to Covid; she passed her theory just before the first lockdown, failed her practical between lockdowns 1 & 2 and then could only this year find an available driving instructor and book a test (demand is ridiculous).

Anyway the hot chocolate (which was very good) now became excellent and the subsequent ride back cross country to Whitchurch to pick up the A49 north to home by 1:00pm was glorious, sunshine all the way.:sun:

Home in time for a celebratory meal out at the Bears Head Pub in Brereton.

A lovely day and I remain grateful for my bike and my family.:)

We were up at the Ponderosa yesterday. It was very quiet up there.

Yes, it was pretty quiet when we rode past late morning, maybe the new forty limit on the Horseshoe Pass is putting some off.

    Congratulation to your daughter.
I used to be a regular at the Ponderosa, but since the 40 zone was introduced I have not been. Problem is you are restricted to 40 all the way from Llangollen to the Ponderosa and 50 all the way back to Chester. Waste of time for me.

I had settled on fitting a Powerbronze fly screen to my 2021 Street Triple R as it’s a tad taller than the Triumph one because the nacelle of the bike looks unfinished. Either will set you back circa £100. One of my sons told me that he had ordered a screen for me, make unknown.

Today we fitted it and it does the job.

Whilst not a proprietary make, at £19 you can’t grumble can you. This is the black one but you can also get clear and light smoke. Height on the centre line from the nacelle is 95mm.

I know what you mean, but it does give you more time to enjoy the scenery.:grinning:

To be honest I’ve only ever ridden to the speed limit plus ~10%, and the people I ride with feel much the same. Its one of the reasons why I don’t have a Thruxton: There was a lovely 2017 competition green example available when I was buying, but I knew that whilst it was a bit more comfortable to my 6’2” frame, I’d either lose my licence or a limb.:cold_sweat: And the little Street Cup is a capable little sister to the Thruxton and looks great in yellow and silver imho.:)

Thanks @Vulpes and @Mrs Visor: zoo keeping is an incredibly competitive yet low paid career to get in to, and for my daughter there has been no plan B since primary school. She’s 26, has a 2:1 degree in animal behaviour and welfare, a total of four years unpaid volunteering in zoos all over the country, including a year in Colchester zoo and a year with the lions at Newquay Zoo and only got her first paid job (minimum wage) 4 months ago.

Driving licence is often listed as essential on keeper job adverts, she’s a real animal whisperer and so hopefully this is the start of a satisfying career for her.

Sorry I got sidetracked this is a motorbike forum. I’ll try and stay on message for the rest of my posts.
