Got a little bored with the rain on Monday, so had a wander a few dealers - BMW, Ducati & Triumph - ended up swapping the Sprint GT and a few drinking vouchers for a Tiger Sport.

Congrats, Peter! Hmmm, looks like it's not only curiosity that leads to new motorcycles in the garage but also boredom and alcohol. ;)

It's funny, I've had my hips replaced twice, due to faulty ones first time round.
Doing a couple of 60 / 70 mile runs this last few months I was getting cramp in my hips....... so I thought I'd have a look at some different riding positions.
The BMW's were just too big, the Ducati's were uncomfortable from the off, The Tiger Sport felt right. Only time will tell.

Have you changed or just painted the tanks, darkman? They do look good.

So after days of preparation and procrastinating I attempted to remove that broken bolt from my bike, without success. I've 90% decided to bite the bullet and remove the swingarm so have access (I hope) to drill it out.

Look at it as a good opportunity to clean and grease the swingarm :)

I have no idea why, but I had the notion - with absolute certainty - that you two had red and lack Speed Twins! My apologies.

Still harbouring the notion of taking the TR6R motor out of the bike and bringing it over ...... once I EVENTUALLY get my workshop tidied up and sorted out. I'll give you plenty of notice, of course! :)

Clean, certainly :) will probably get new seals if any part of pivot bolt has been exposed to corrosion (so potentially damaging seal on removal). Friend also suggested to replace bearing whilst I was there, but don't want to go to that length unless there's any sign of wear. (Even more tools to buy and learn how to use).

More bike disassembly today as Amazon delivers the tools needed. Came to remove bolt connecting suspension drop link to swingarm only to find it was loose :scream: Has me wondering if it was loose from the last dealer service (20k service included linkage lube) or loose from when dealer replaced shock under warranty. Also, the link seems a bit wobbly at the other end so wondering about the state of the various needle rollers. More disassembly tomorrow will let me know. Now I need a stiff drink...

More disassembly today to get at snapped bolt, oh what have I done to my precious?!

    2.jpg

Dremel died grinding out the slot I cut in snapped bolt for previous extraction attempt, but it was mostly done so decided to start drilling out. Am only part way through that and need to wait for cordless drill to do it's slow recharge. Might as well open a beer and continue tomorrow...

Well, drilling out went a bit wonky and messy, so I've stopped with hole 1mm smaller than thread trying to save. Plan is to clean hole with a burr until I see threads, but new Dremel not yet arrived so that'll be tomorrow.

I also cleaned and examined all the bearings on drop link, and am happy that the needle rollers aren't damaged, however the sleeves under most of the seals are really rusty so plan on replacing sleeves and seals.

    sleeves.jpg

Left sleeve is not in stock at Fowlers so will try cleaning it with the very fine wire wool that is also due to arrive in today's Amazon delivery.

Sleeves are about 3mm longer than the piece they go through, allowing sided to side movement, but that means end part is exposed to elements and prone to rusting, then damaging seal if piece slides to other side. Will make sure I keep exposed bits greased.
