the later Buell's had a single brake rotor that was bolted to the rim of the wheel, quite brilliant concept. look at how light the front wheel can be

Changed rear tyre and brake pads on my Bonneville Speedmaster today, wasn't expecting it to take until sunset, but it did. (Tyre was fitted to loose wheel by a professional). New one is a Cobra Chrome being as the original Cobras are discontinued. Old had 1-2mm of tread after 5,500 miles, hope new tyres last longer. Rather than OEM brake pads I went for EBC Semi-Sintered V-Pads, which are bright orange unfortunately. Still, road grime and panniers will hide that :)

Well , today is wash day , Both bikes ! Doing polishing on the 98 Sprint header pipes , using oven cleaner and steel wool. Looking like they will come up looking almost like new !
Going to bleed brakes and free up calipers and rotors , will free up/clean the pistons in the calipers too. IMG_20191029_102511.jpg IMG_20191029_102511.jpg IMG_20191029_102651.jpg

    Part way through ...:)

Three hours and more later , the left hand front caliper was doing all the work ! Right hand had only one out of the Four pistons was working freely. So new pads and front brakes sorted out for now. Will require full service and new seals in a little while.
Back brakes are OK , just wanted to adjust peddle height , test ride and all's well , now finish off some more polishing :) :)

Zoom in of original picture when I first got the bike home . IMG_20191029_154713.jpg

After today's polishing . Not sparkling , but looking like pipes would after a few years , not the 10 years or more of built up dirt it originally had . Polished pegs and cleaned the mufflers.

    :). :)

I first noticed the disc as part of the rim on the Motoguzzi and was impressed. Longer braking distance and increaeed strengthening of the rim o_O

Just SORN'd my Bonneville, yesterday I removed the battery and put it in its " vacuum" bag until next spring.
This yearly procedure seems to come around faster and faster.

Well , nothing done With the bike today , but ordered new brake pad's , two set's. From a bike shop $78:00 for the two sets ($39 set) off eBay $32:68 free postage delivers to my address ! Will probably save $70:00 as I won't have to travel to Perth 180 odd KLM round trip !how do they justify 110% mark up ?

Technically yesterday, after testing the qr screen I switched the stock black chainguard for a chrome one, as I do like a bit of chrome, also got chromed headlight brackets but not fitted them yet

If I did that the PETA nutters (or whatever they’re called) would complain about needing to decimate a large herd to make enough hide for my trousers.

Went to Edinburgh for a test ride on the Tiger 1200 as i wanted to compare it with the 1250 GS, first thing i noticed was it was quite a bit taller even with the seat set on the lowest setting, and it looked more like the GS Adventure with the bulky front end, imo it looks much better than the GS and i really wanted to like it, but i would put it maybe on a par with the old 1200 GS but not in the same league as the new 1250 GS i prefered the handling on the GS as it seemed to be lighter and more flickable through the twisties and it has more grunt.the one thing the Tiger has in it's favour is the price, although new it's about the same as the GS you can get used Tigers a lot cheaper and a lot of them come with luggage, there doesn't seem to be many used BMs that come with luggage maybe the owners take them off and sell seperatly or put on their new bikes.

It will have to be the Speed Triple Steve, although i'd be sad to see it go as it's been a brilliant bike.If i ever sell the fat boy it would be for another Harley, for me i get so much more satisfaction riding a Hog, i just love the grunt and the sound of the engine

another minor change, swithced the stock back mudguard for the shorter version from a later model, I managed to get one with the same colour so just a straight swap. Imo it cleans the back end up a bit without going down the tail tidy route.
