Featured What you been doing with your TRIUMPH today??

They're K3s. I don't like them under power in bends. They feel skittery like they're going to step out. (And that's in the dry). They just don't inspire confidence. Whether this is a mental hangover from the crappy suspension before I had it set up, I don't know. But they don't seem very sticky which is why I thought they might be slow warmers.

Edit: been reading some reviews and it seems they're highly rated as track and fast road tyres but not for wet or cold roads. Bearing in mind most of my local riding is on not the fastest and not exactly track-smooth B roads, maybe I'm not able to give them enough stick to get them grippy.
Or it may be just me...

 

I don't know why Triumph put more or less track tyres on these bikes that take a warm road and some fairly aggressive riding to get up to temp , the good news is that they will only last about 900 miles (well mine did anyway) I have used the K3's, the M5's and the Z8's on my old bike and although the M5's are very good but they only lasted 2500 miles I would have a look at the Z8's they were a perfect match for the bike with great road holding wet or dry and very good mileage. they also warm up very quick with different tensions in the tyre belts.

I binned the K3's I had on mine following two sphincter twitching moments, one in the damp at about 10mph and one in the dry on an island at about 30 mph. Got some nice new Michelin PR4's on it now and there is a world of difference in grip and confidence.

I commented in a customer satisfaction survey on the decision made by Triumph to fit pretty much track tyres to a road bike being sold in the UK where it is going to be used on cold and damp roads. Never heard anything back.....

 

Last weekend I fitted new rear shocks, new speedo cable, K&N oil and air filter new handlebar risers 1.5" higher and 1" pull back, rigged up indicator warning lights to the
inside of the screen using green led lights in a clear plastic tube fitted to the inside of the screen and only visible to the rider. The annoying slow puncture seems to have sealed itself but I've no idea how I tried so many things i'm not sure what worked.Then on Sunday I went for a blast around the Bucks countryside.

 

Goldmans did my Thunderbird wheels (black) and made a cracking job of them :upyeah:

 

junked the old crappy carbon hugger that was partly zip tied onto my new to me 1992 trophy 3 with a genuine 2nd hand chainguard / (£10 off ebay) looks miles better.
as more parts come via the postie I will be getting it more and more suitable to bring out to play.

 

The Trident wheels back from the Powdercoater's and ready to fit on the bike.

Also finished tidying up the Daytona, only got the wheels left to powdercoat and we are done, also took it out to Loomies Cafe last weekend.

 

Took a wee ride to Castle Douglas today, 100 miles round trip, lovely going down, coming back clouds opened up when I was about 25 miles from home, soaked to the skin but great fun :smile:

That is a great spot for biking around there I know there is a great road going from Durisdeer through the valley is one of the best roads i've ridden for a while :upyeah:

 

I'll make a point of riding that sometime Steve, planning on me and the missus doing Ayr to Portpatrick today :smile:

 

Making the coffee and generally loitering while Conquest Carbon fitted the Venture Shield kit to the pearly white bits of my Speed. And a splendid job he made of it as well. Cheers Steve, much obliged. :upyeah:

Took the Tiger up round the Derbyshire Peaks over the weekend, rain, hail, wind, snow and a bit of sun



Got tempted down some green lanes by a 'pal' on a KTM 990 Aventure

 

Missus and I took a wee jaunt to Stranraer today, sunny all the way, lots of bikers out, had a bite to eat at Portpatrick and back home, scenery was superb... Could almost think we were in California with the waves rolling in the shore, but the cold reminded us we were in Scotland :biggrin:

 

Some great lanes up there, I used to go most Sundays on a WR450, much respect on the tiger, it's not really made for that stuff. I will have to wait till it gets a bit warmer before I venture out on my speed triple r

 

Found out that I was given the wrong link pipe for the exhaust for the Trident, just waiting for the new one to turn up along with a few other bits from destination triumph and I'm more or less finished apart from bleeding the clutch and brakes and making sure everything is working right.
Next on the list is getting the CB 750 chopped and welded ready for powdercoating, seem to spend more time in the garage with the bikes instead of riding them.

Fitted some R&G easy grip pads to the tank and conquest carbon tank infills to the speed, to stop slippy slidey and protect the tank and Steves nice carbon
