Hoping to get a cheeky ride out tomorrow morning so checked Hugh over and he seems fine. Only had to add a few psi to both tyres and wipe over the chrome to make sure it was all tickety boo. It'll probably be foggy as hell now and so damp I'll not feel like going out...

Hurrah. I got to ride my bike today made a nice change I can tell you. I did 100 miles and 14 quid in fuel. Boring land scape and I can never be bothered to stop for a photo,so I took one when I got home.
This bike is very serious init, really enjoying the experience, when Im getting the chance to.

Topped up my clutch fluid, yep the old gal has a hydraulic clutch and I noticed it was a little low. Started her up and selected first gear.....crrrrruuunnnccchhhh, so I adjusted my cheapo chinese lever a couple of notches and it snicked into gear nicely. Off I went for a nice ride in the countryside enjoying the sunshine, thinking how smooth the gear change is now.
I needed fuel so stopped at a garage, topped up, paid for the petrol and sat on the bike, pulled the clutch in as I always do, pressed the starter and ......nout. Am I in Neutral, yes. Check I havent knocked the cut out switch, try it both ways, still nout. Panic mode starts, I am miles from home and dont fancy the thought of waiting for a breakdown truck to fetch me. I am thinking about the crank position sensor failing, my engine is hot so wait for it to cool down and I am sure all will be well. Check my fuses under the seat while I am waiting, all good. Go get a drink while I wait for the bike to cool down.
Come back to bike and decide to give it another go, clutch in, press starter.......nout still.
I am almost resigned to my fate when for some unknown reason I try it without pulling the clutch in first, ddd, vroom.
Ok helmet on, gloves on, remember I am still in panic mode, gotta get home before it changes its mind.
Phew I get back to my garage, switch off, then ... clutch in and try to restart.....nout, so I let the clutch out and press the starter, eureka it fires up, weird shit. I turn the engine off and click the adjuster on the clutch lever a few notches, pull the clutch in and press starter...dd, vrooom, Mmmmmmmmm. Click adjuster back to original setting.
Ok so now I need to remember not to clutch in after all these years when I start the bike coz I love my new gear changing, it is so slick now, best it has ever been, I guess it has gone downhill , havent we all??, without me noticing.

How weird after 6 years of ownership. I usually get the bike serviced by an ex Triumph guy every year so dont have to touch the fluids.

I taped up the loom after reconnecting the tail tidy when I nipped a wire and fused the number plate light then when I washed the bike tonight. I fused the light again ,its in bits again in the shed, when I unwrapped the insulation the wires were wet so I think water shorted it this time. Anyway it bugged me, and Ive got it ready to rewrap in the morning.
If Id left it it would have done my head in all night.

I had similar problems with my Tona when I first bought her. Ditched the cheapo levers and fitted the originals. Problem solved, although I never worked out exactly why.

Did you put the spacer from your old levers in?

There’s a peculiar paradox that according to your map, Great Britain is smaller than Rochdale and a subset of itself. I visited Lancaster Uni last month - they’re a clever lot but even they would have trouble explaining that...

Ride for a coffee and collect my TRMCC membership. 35kt gusts and blowing hard over the harbour bridge, but got out.

Big mistake! You stride THROUGH the Forest of Bowland not round it! Some great scenic routes if you can resist the urge to cane it.

Flushed the front brake fluids, using the freshly installed speedbleeders. Worked like a charm.

Well after yesterday's fun and games I did a little research , my clutch switch was sticking and not coming all the way out, a quick spray with wd40 and a fiddle about, ooooo errrrrrr mrs, and all is well with my starting again. The joys of an older Triumph, lol
Went out for a brief ride when the mist cleared up then back in time for a snifter before dinner. Happy days, or is that happy daze?

Wow! Unbelievable weather, went for a bimble to Leigh On Sea, popped in to say hello to kids, then a speedy detour on the way home. Just about to put the TTR away, certainly no cob webs present now :yum

Poor bike! I had a catheter after an op last September - sodding bag and tube were always in the wrong place and kept getting caught (ouch)!

Hope the bike feels better soon.

Edit: you clearly love that bike as it looks like you are nursing it back to health in your house. It’s either that or you are the only person with an expensive wooden floor in their workshop...
We can’t be presumptuous, but if there is a Mrs Vulprs, I bet she’s bloody livid! :joy:

Fitted heated grips and a scottoiler. Quick blast around the block with no gloves, hands nice and warm!

Had a nice ride across the moors to Reeth then went through Richmond on the way back, a nice 139 mile round trip.
