A mate of mine popped round this arvo on his new to him Triumph 1050 Speed Triple that he had just picked up in the NE of England. So of course we have to go out for a bimble - except it turned into quite a blast. I hadn't been quite that fast in a good while and my Tiger really showed it's claws !!!!

Dave, I've ridden with you when we were both on Bonnies and at last years GMU - you are not really a bimbler (must be the kevlar joggers - they inspire faster riding!) ;);)

Oh great !!! . Checking over penelope only to find one of the inlet rubbers has split .
Mad panic now to get a new one before the GMU. Plus I'm meeting Wessa for a tour of the south east of Ireland on his first leg of his trip on monday.

Bodge job is the only way around it until the replacement arrive. The thought of taking the dreaded carbs and airbox off does not impress.
Anyway years of watching Blue peter and what you can do with sticky tape seems to have temporarily repaired the inlet for wessa' s trip. Just hope it holds..

Bloody hell Wayne, that really has split !!!!! Can you completely undo the jubilee clips, remove them, then remove the rubber ?

Once you've got it off the bike you might be able to supaglue it ?

I did think that dave , but its a big job removing the airbox and carbs and fannying around lining them all up. The other two rubbers are holding the damaged one in place so its just a matter of getting a seal on it . i rode it with my repair down the motorway and around town just to see if the heat would melt the tape, but strangely she ran better than ever:). Im guessing she was sucking air from the split so wasn't running her best. Shes holding now ok. I will take her for another spin the weekend before i go for the long ride with Wessa on MONDAY:confused::). I have ordered the new inlets. Hope to have them on Wednesday so i will strip her down on tuesday ready. Fingers crossed for Monday, hopefully she will last until then.

Good thing about the exhaust bandages, they do tighten themselves and are obviously fully heat resistant.
Worth trying or taking some with you for what they cost.

Trust Penelope mate! That certainly has split though. Yeah, taking the carbs off - well actually putting them back on is a real bugger (memories from my Trident 900). Had to do it twice. If you have to go down that route, I found that a hairdryer to warm up the rubbers before you line them up plus a thin film of washing up liquid spread around the inside of each rubber helps. :(

I'm probably being thick mate, but I don't understand why you can't remove the rubbers - once you've removed the jubilee clips of course - without stripping out the airbox.

Assuming you've got the clips off, the old rubbers are probably a bit stiff as they do with age (that's probably why they split) and as they're fubar'd I would cut them off and chuck'em. In this warm weather the new ones will be soft and as Steve suggested a bit of washing up liquid or vaseline on them and I would have thought you could have slipped them in - inside first then outside - using a small-bladed flat screwdriver or small L-shaped allen key.
