In the end (at 3am), I managed to pop the seized one out using what callipers are good at: hydraulics. I closed and sealed the banjo bore with a calliper retaining bolt (perfect fit!) and two water pipe washers, filled the empty hole of the "free" piston with water, replaced the piston, and pushed it down with a c-clamp. It took two goes, but the other one did eventually come out (hydraulics work). All that's left now is a good thorough clean, rebuild the calliper with the new seal kit, put it all back on the bike, and explain to the missus why the table cloth has dot4 strains that will never come out.[/QUOTE] I used a small nut and bolt(bolt only slightly smaller than diameter of hole in piston) put nut on bolt, then slip on ring spanner, insert in hole, then slacken nut until it presses against side of piston, use spanner to pull on bolt and so piston this has worked for me many times.

Tried for 3 hours to remove oil filter (I did not put it on ) straps chains jubilee clips gave up, sprayed it with wd 40, came home and called mate who commiserated and suggested water pump pliers, next day ,5 minutes and done. feels good.
The photo was taken at Inveraray,don't think it was the one used in the show though,it looked as if it was still getting used as a fishing boat
Interesting technique. Will this not damage the piston inside? Mine was just cooked into place with salt and grime coming from the dust ring. Lesson learned, though - I'll be cleaning those calipers far more often, and avoid riding on the beaches of Donegal from now on.
