Yep.....my wife had just started work in an office at the time, she had to use a manual typewriter with a candle stuck on top because of the power strike's.

We narrowly missed petrol/diesel rationing in the early seventies. I had a ration card my Suzuki GT550J, which would have been VERY limiting! Not as limiting as it would have been for those with 500/750 Kawasaki 2 stroke triples though!!!:scream:

Yes, I remember the petrol ration cards. Some petrol stations with signs saying "regular customers only", and some eedjits brimming their tanks at every opportunity, only getting 15 pence worth in.

    Happy days.

I remember them, l had a 350 Suzuki twin at the time. I'm pretty sure those ration cards were actually old leftovers from WW2.
I think they are worth a few quid now.
Ahaa those were the days....do you know we could go out and leave our front door unlocked with no worries whatsoever!

Fifteen pence! I could have filled the tank on my little suzuki for that!
I'm enjoying this trip down memory lane!

In all this political lying only one issue interests me
    I voted to stay in
It was a very hard conclusion to come to but the people voted leave
I knew exactly what the vote meant as did everyone else
That peice of democracy must be carried out or democracy is finished in this country
Like many of you l lost my uncle in ww2 they all deserve better than this
They talk about poverty them poor sods well the lucky ones who came
    back
Came back to back to back housing
    and nothing else
I hate this country at the minute

Just to stir the pot a little. Who thinks that unions will be given back anything like the power they had in the 70s? In fact, how many people actually belong to unions these days? I remember the 70s well and people are right, the Unions were out of control but so were the effing Arabs - petrol rationing nearly came in because the Saudis decided to use their brains for once and put a strangle hold on world supplies, prices shot up and economies that were based on VERY cheap energy were suddenly in a world of shit. I would also remind people that the last Labour Government had actually navigated the country through the financial shitstorm caused by Bankers in general and American bankers in particular and we were in pretty good shape - the thing about " we spent all the money" was actually some twits attempt at a joke. The Tories, aided by the clueless Lib Dems were acting on their principles, not their needs. They believe in small government and that everything should be done by private enterprise so of course they want to cut government spending. But they are useless at it. An example is the National Health Service. Over the last ten years they have privatised lots of it - my scans were done by a private outfit, my wife's op was done in a private hospital. But because they daren't present Joe Public with the bill the government pays these private companies on our behalf and tells us it has spent more on the NHS than anyone else. They don't tell you they are paying over the odds so private companies can pay out a share dividend. Same thing is happening with the railways. Old Richard Branson only makes a profit on Virgin Rail because he gets a fricking huge subsidy - and some of those rail companies still manage to make a loss - which we pay for while they still somehow pay out share dividends. As for care homes. God help us - they are closing because they are privatised and the owners can no longer make a profit if they actually have to provide care. Same for prisons. I could go on......

I personally think the unions were way to powerful back in the day
I take your point on the Arabs
But the end of the day it’s their oil
We do this all the time we’re too dependent on other countries
Gordon browns gold deal wasn’t great
I have no trust in any party now
The way they rallied together to stop Brexit disgusted me
Tony Blair telling 52 percent of the country is wrong
That from a man who set the world on fire
The only party I’d feel comfortable voting for would be guy fawkes
    And he’s not standing

Respectfully, your analysis is flawed. Brown had maxed out the credit card before the sub prime initiated financial crisis compounded by Northern Rock and RBS thinking they had abolished gravity.

You can get too wrapped up in ideology but nobody who has ever worked in government would accuse it of efficiency. Care homes? The public funding rate for care is barely changed in the last decade and is below the cost of provision. Private care homes still generally out perform local authority homes in the quality of care provided; go figure.
There are plenty of not for profit private models that provide better care at less cost than either profit or public systems.

I don’t think any union should be allowed to be tied to any political party
Union is supposed to fight for worker’s rights and political parties do what they can to strip you of them
The whole system is rotten to the core

I take it you're not very keen on unite then!
I must say I'm no fan of McLusky.
I did my apprenticeship in an engine factory....we had proper, commie shop stewards, they had a hammer and sickle lapel badges and a rolled up copy of the morning star under their arm. Not the kids they have now!

    I agree about financial influences
But my only problem is I can vote for either party but labour are intrinsically linked in my workplace
Your surrounded by Marxist left wing telling you how to behave at work
They shouldn’t have such a influence on the workforce
Bear in mind over half the workforce doesn’t support labour
    On a side note
I’m glad we on this site can have a discussion from all points of view and
Kept it as it should be
    Cheers all

I am inclined to agree but only ‘inclined’. The underlying problem is little different. Most folk are not political wonks (alleluia!) but busy getting on with their own lives and somewhat apathetic. That allows a few Union bosses to deploy block votes that accord more with their views than that of a more diverse membership.
Personally I hope for an upheaval in our national politics that makes for a more genuinely representative outcome with voter rights of recall and a proper HoL reform. I see the Labour Party of Keir Hardie as having succeeded to the point where it is no longer relevant......unless the Tories continue themselves to be so niche interest.
I would hope to see a couple of centrist parties emerge that agree about wealth creation and just argue rationally around the median point about tax and spend priorities. Today’s Labour is more ideological than practical with a Front Bench that has very few brain cells to pool. Anybody voting Boris is holding their nose......
    Great choice NOT........

    The problem is
    They are politicians
They all refused to carry out the democratic will of the people
    None are fit for purpose
