I played a bit of hooky today and went out for a little solo ride on my non-Triumph Street Glide Special. I didn't leave the garage until around 1:30pm which would normally be blazing hot in August. But today was a balmy 90-ish ºF and the weather was super nice for riding.:sun:

I just needed a bit of moto-therapy so did a familiar, tried-and-true route that lends itself to relaxation and contemplation. Although I've previously posted some photos with my other bikes at this same rest stop in Saddlebrooke, I know how it goes on this forum. "No pictures, didn't happen." So here's the evidence. :):joy: BTW, I did not purposefully choose my beverage to match the color of my bike and my helmet.

I checked the temperature at a stop on the Saddlebrooke loop and was pleasantly surprised to see that it hadn't even hit 90ºF. The humidity is up somewhat thanks to all our monsoon rains but when I was moving I didn't even notice it.

Back home in the driveway after a very therapeutic 60 mile solo ride. So much cheaper than therapy! Well, if you don't count the cost of the bike. :)

I had a cracking dice with a red one a couple of weeks ago. Out on my cbx in the country lanes minding my own business when i came up behind this E-type. Owner floored the thing, so i gassed the cbx. Owners 10 yr old son was looking at the bike & egging his dad to go faster in the Jag. We errr were cracking on a bit for about a mile. As they turned off we saluted each other & that kids face tells me he will never forget blasting down country lanes with the noise of 18 cylinders flat chat!!!

    A fun day!

That might take some saving - this being a 1974 series III still going for around € 90.000... :joy:o_O

Did you know that the first orange Hardly Movingsons were painted with paint nicked from the Golden Gate Bridge. No, I didn't know that either but Sonny told someone who then told someone else who then told me. I thought you'd like to know as well. Over.

I couldn't afford "the real thing" so bought the "modern version". This is a 2004; 4.2. It'll never be an E (obviously!) but it is a lovely thing to drive and even lovelier to look at!

I'm sure it's nice to drive Adie, but I beg to differ on lovelier to look at in comparison to the E...

I would not ever suggest it's lovelier to look at in comparison to the original E type, Wim. "lovely to drive and lovelier to look at"

In and of itself, the XK8 is a lovely looking car and the V8 engine is (probably) capable of outperforming a standard E type XK engine but I know the modern 'version' will never have the same impact as the original.

I guess the issue has parallels with the 'original vs modern' Bonneville debate?

thats always an interesting contrast. compared to the older ones, the modern triumphs are faster, more reliable, take less maintenance, and are excellent motorcycles in every way that they were designed for.

most of my stuff is old --drum brakes, oil leaks, problematic ignitions and pleistocene carburetors, slower (some of them. not all), and require lots more attention. but i wouldn't trade. i've got several newer machines (1997 and 2007 is new, i guess), but the old butt shakers are always the ones i take out first.

i confess i don't take them on cross country trips anymore, but most of that is because there is no longer a dealer network for stuff i need.

Went out on my non-Triumph H-D Low Rider S for a solo 60 miler this afternoon before the big monsoon hit. Gorgeous weather, quiet roads, my motorcycle playlist playing in my helmet. I rode into Catalina State Park to gaze at the clouds and the mountains then rode to my local H-D dealership to say hi to the guys. Unfortunately, I learned that all three of the service writers, the service manager (and his wife and two kids), as well as two of the four mechanics have all tested positive for Covid. Eek! I didn't hang out there longer than it took to learn that bad news and to get a cold drink out of the vending machine.
