I only partially agree. Free speech is not a licence to say anything you want. Society imposes expectations based on moral values. Confusing those with political perspectives is the rallying call of extremists.

I guess it relates to inciting violence or harm to others that this will be called out for. Parlar broke their terms of service with Amazon and don''t appear from what I have seen to try and appear that they are moderating their users in any way. I don't believe from what I have read that freedom of speech has been restricted, there are other conduits available.

I would also guess that some of the potential issues around the 20th that would be potentially organised using Parlar will mean that large corporations are not prepared to be aligned in any way with that.

    In your opinion.

It’s actually a lot simpler. The (legal not ‘societal’) curbs on free speech are about inciting hatred or violence.

Can’t disagree, but there’s also a concept called “reading the room”, which he is particularly inept at.
I would just expect him to suffer the burden of proof when it comes to his statements to the people.

Pretty dark day when you have to prove your innocence rather than have guilt proven. Res ipsa loquitur (the thing speaks for itself) is generally confined to accidents where negligence can be inferred.

The ultimate irony is Twitter banning Trump. Kinda like firing the manager of the sewage facility because of the smell.

    Notre ami Voltaire.

“It’s dangerous to be right when the government is wrong.”

“I may not agree with what you have to say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”

Meanwhile Google, Amazon, Twitter etc., have taken Parler down. Speaks volumes for their attitude to free speech.

Cal,you gonna be disappointed by the truth again:
“I may not agree with what you have to say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.” is an apocryphal citation.
Voltaire never wrote or told that.

    Sorry

Let's be honest, on "parler" free speech often means racism anti semitic and other "opinions" from the same level.
The main issue is Twitter, Facebook or Youtube are the only ones to auto regulate. And became powerful enough to be dangerous.

For your defense, the last one to wrongly use that sentence was a french politician that at a time ran for presidency.

It is profoundly dangerous to free speech that these tech companies can appoint themselves censors and squeeze out competitors without legal liability. Parler is merely more diverse than Twitter. I doubt it is gone for good.

Hence its wide use. Succinct approximation!

The biggest threat to free speech is the increased noise from the illiberal liberals.
It’s been this way for a while and there’s too many on this site for my liking.

It is from the moment it overpass socially correct references. Hating other ethnics, cultures , etc,is not socially admitted and negative for social behavior.
Spreading lies to achieve those "opinions" (we should rather say "belief") is also dishonest. And all those new chat support accelerated that exponentially.
Then we reach the "burden of proof"/"burden of proof fallacy" which is a basic notion in psychology.
