Putting windows and/or seats in the back of a van does not automatically mean that it can travel at car speeds, otherwise everyone with a van would install a rear side window. It has to be reclassified with the DVLA which has specified requirements to qualify. Motorhomes below 3050 kgs kerb weight are classed as being able to travel at car speeds and over that weight they are van speeds. Some good news though for you EnglishBandit, the vast majority of insurance companies do not have to be told that you are attending a Speed Course but if you are asked a direct question at renewal time then you either own up or simply change companies.

If once asked you will get a SP01 or something like that on your record meaning you attended a speeding awareness course or something. They share that information...

My ‘friend’ argued that it wasn’t and offence and didn’t get points so it should be non of the insurance companies business - the insurance rep said that it didn’t matter as they must have speeding to have got the awareness course invitation... therefore they’re a crap driver - Post hoc ergo propter hoc!
