Try the bloody M6 in to Birmingham for cameras Joke of a motorway. 50 40 30 50 every mile.

There's a guy I regularly see in the morning who is nailing it in between the traffic above the advisories so he must now which ones actually work.

Used to drive that way every day with my job, been like it for years now.
Going the back way the A5 was crap too, seems there was a camera every 100 yards, haven't been that way for a bit so it may have changed but somehow I doubt it.

Yer the A5 is a nightmare. Camera, lorries, speed cameras single roads aghhh!

At least you can filter a bit on the M6 no chance on the A5. Added 30 minutes to my journey although it was the day of the storm on Tuesday!

I'm rather relieved to not having received a NIP from three weeks ago. Speedo indicated 80+ ish as I noticed the van. Think it would have been over any threshold so presumably he or she weren't in business at the time.

I got done 4 weeks ago in North Yorkshire in my van doing 71 in a 70. On a dual carriageway. As I was in a can the law says I can only do 60mph but if I put fecking window in it I can do 70mph total fecking hand pumps the lot of them. Have to do a bloody speed course now in 2 weeks. Good job it was not on the bike

I got in the back of one of the speed vans last year with a mate after we went past it we’ll over the speed limit. After 2 miles I had to go back and find out if I got done. Knocked on the side of the van and when the lad opened the door I asked him did he get us. Long story short no he didn’t. But asked did we have 5 mins. Said yes let us jump in the back and proceeded to show us how it all worked. Very interesting dose not matter how fast you are going if the operator of the gun does not pull the trigger you do not get done. If they do pull the trigger a mark is put on a cd that is in a secure box that he can not get into ( so if he got his wife by mistake he can not wipe it). When they get back to the station it is removed and dealt with by a different department. Showed us lots more stuff. Like a car was driving away from the van and when pointed at the wing mirror he could see who was driving and even if on a mobile phone. One good thing real did come out of it was the 30 mins we were in the back he never gunned anyone. Think he was just happy to be talking to someone. Nice bloke to be honest. It was very very interesting. As we pulled of at high speed lol.

Agreed. They need to update speed limits and brake distances and make driving tests much harder. Also retests for us old fuckers

Yes just normal ford custom van 2lt short wheel base any van even small vans can only do 60 on a duel carriageway and 50 on a single carriageway. Been the law for years. If it is a commercial vehicle that’s the law but if it has windows and seats in the back it can do the full speed limit. It’s madness you can buy my van with windows and seats in the back it is the same van with the same weight load same engine size there is no fecking difference but the seats and windows stopping distance is the same yet they fine me and not the ones with windows fecking joke. So be warned they are out for more money. And you can even turn my van into a camper van send the log book off saying it’s now a camper and I can then do 70 what a joke it’s still the same bloody van

Do not quote me on this, but my buddy was telling me he saw a copper with a camera on a bridge near Carmarthen, Wales and as he rode past the guy sort of waved at him, so no knowing what was going on he turned round asap and found the copper and asked if he had been done. Thankfully he hadn't and the copper said he was a biker and was just saying hello..
While he was there he asked about the distances you can be radar'd from etc and was told the camera can actually get you from over a mile away but for speed they usually press the trigger between 600m to 300m but most of the time its 300m so you should have plenty of time to see them before you are likely to get radar'd I suppose it all depends on the person behind the radar though.. He talked to him for almost an hour so at least no one got caught while he was there.

In Australia they use Vitronic camera's , they are fully automatic ! Once the parameters are set , it photographs every vehicle that speeds past it. The operator can see which vehicle's are speeding. He/she has a laptop ,used to put setting's into the camera, the camera can be In car or outside/free standing , the camera stores all infringement photos and data until shut down ! It then transfers them to a USB memory stick , data can then only be accessed on a police computer ! Memory stick is locked and encrypted !!
Camera has a limited visual range (camera lenses !) The laser optics can SEE and operate much further , greater range ! Camera usually takes photo at 35 to 60 metres , you can easily see in the photo who is driving ! The local camera caught a speeding motorcyclist , a serial repeat offender ! Who had removed his plate ! He was regularly doing 200 kph on the Great Eastern Highway , between Perth/Northam . they caught him through facial recognition software ! Searched licensing photograph data base , even though he had full face helmet on !!
The camera operator was well pleased , turned out the guy was regularly Stoned Off his head on Meth Amphetamines etc ! I believe the guy got several years in lock up. He had many offences that were associated to him via camera evidence , is same bike similarly sized/clothed rider and the final photo that got enough facial recognition details to track him down ! Took about three months of Police work ! And one photo that finally put them onto the Who !
Your cameras have much much better lenses than Australia's ! If they were also fixed/automated there would be many many more bookings !!

My lease company sent me a letter which arrived today advising me that they've given Hampshire's finest my address for my efforts two weeks ago on the A32 into Gosport. I've not seen a camera van at this location in the 7 months I've been using this road.

It all happens in the first 30s of this video

My own fault, accepted, and I admit to succumbing to a certain amount of frustration after being held up in a 70 limit doing around 40 in lane 2 while the road in front of the offending vehicle was completely clear. When he slotted into lane 1 I decided to clear the line of cars on the left before moving over. The usual happened with everyone (apart from me ) braking sharply, I simply lifted and allowed engine braking to do the work and it was too late for me to do anything else about it after I saw the van.

This road drops from a 70 to 40 limit and I think the speedo was showing about 50'ish, maybe 55. Not completely sure and I regretted my dash-cam not having the facility to record speed.

This'll be my first NIP in 33 years of driving. Hoping for a course but believe I may be outside that option.

In the meantime, today, I witnessed this bell end. If you can be bothered to watch the whole video you'll see him use all three lanes on either side of vehicles. I stayed in what will become lane 4 to allow the A3 traffic to merge and the Eastern Road traffic to move over without crossing my path.

Now, as is typical, I feel aggrieved that while I was I driving too quickly my behavior wasn't by default dangerous. Arguably the drivers who change lanes with short or no notice in order to screen themselves or brake sharply are actually more of a risk.

I kind of feel that they're able to allocate resource when there's revenue to be made but cocks like this go unnoticed and don't even talk to me about mobile phone use...

Thank you all, I feel better now! :relieved:

here is the paper work i got from plod that tell you if you can do a speed coarse

    IMG_0405.JPG

    IMG_0406.JPG
i was doing 71 in a 70 but as i was in a van i should have been doing 60 so i was 11 miles over. Wankers wankers wankers. We have drug dealing all round here twats riding stolen bikes can not go out without smelling drugs and they want to do hard working honest people for speeding. Which is bull shit when the same fecking van can do 70 mph if it has windows wankers wankers wankers. Now I have to tell my insurance which they will now hit me for more money. And they wonder why people get pissed off with them.

All commercial vehicles, except car derived vans and crew cab (4 seat) 4x4 pick ups are subject to lower speed limits on National Speed Limit roads. So that would be 50 on single carriageways and 60 on dual carriageways. Same for vehicles towing, including cars pulling any size trailer.

    Ah but.......
    A motorhome isn't a commercial vehicle!
This means it can legally travel faster than say an empty twin wheel Transit despite being substantially heavier than it.

That is correct. It is a privately owned vehicle that does not carry goods for business. I had a converted VW LT28 that i had to re-register as a Motorhome in order to avoid being restricted to the same speed limits as a van. Those speed limits also apply to single wheel vans, not just twins.

Captain I mentioned twin wheel because of the weight consideration. I thought that single wheel I.e. less payload vans, were treat the same as cars so thanks for that information.

All this does make you wonder if the intention is to make it more confusing in order to raise funds. SMART motorways with 60 limits on a 70 mph rated road is a classic example.

No worries. I drive a van as part of my job so i need to know this to keep my licence clean. With the smart motorway thing, a lower speed limit indicated is for everyone to observe. So a 50 limit is the same for everyone. Its only where you see the traditional National Speed limit sign that the variations apply.
