Does it say "not for cruiser bike use"?

Manufacturers are really dumb when they come out with this "We've never had this trouble before" - like it's your fault. Give 'em hell and make 'em bleed.

I can't stand this stupid and non-commercial attitude.

Triumph came back to me today (all credit to them for a quick response) and have told me to take the suit back which is what I'll do.

Back to my old suit for the time being!

I took the suit back to Destination Triumph this afternoon and met the new sales manager Mike.

Lovely bloke and refunded my money with no issues. I'm not sure I'm going to spend it on some more waterproofs though as my car has had to be scrapped as it's beyond economical repair and I've had to get another car :(

Yes, a seized turbo. Thought to be caused by oil starvation as the oil level was below minimum apparently. It wasn't 3 weeks ago so I don't know what happened. No oil warning light, no temperature or engine management warnings.

Estimates of £1500+ would not be out of line. Then they are reluctant to replace the turbo without finding out if there are other issues with the engine causing the oil starvation. They don't want to take the engine out and I don't want them to as the cost will rocket. The car is pretty bashed about anyway with dents and scratches and a serious dent that will cost between £700 and £900 to repair. Similar age and spec models with less miles and good bodywork are on Autotrader for around £2500.

Seems a great pity to have to scrap the car when everything else is working well but I can't see any other way round it. The dealer gave me a part-ex on it in the end and as I was going to change the car anyway it's just forced my hand.

Still cost a lot of money though....

    Sorry to hear that Dick.

When I got back from my weekend away I found that the washing machine had imploded, so 350€ later and new one installed.

Oh dear... I'm not sure I'd be able to control myself....

Do you get to choose the voices?

Which reminds me of Brigitte Bardot on Desert Island Discs. When asked "what would be your luxury item?" she answered "appiness". Work it out yourself...

The 'programs' range from a 15 minute quickie to a 'thoroughly dirty' 3 hour job.

Shame about the car folkbloke - had a similar thing with my C180. It was running rough so took it in to the local Mercedes dealer to run a diagnostic on it and they rang later to say that the timing chain had snapped while they were moving it into the workshop! Estimate to fix £4000.00 (minimum) on a car worth probably £2750.00.
Turns out to be a known fault on these models when you look at a Mercedes forum - one that could have been avoided for about £150.00!
Cost me £80.00 to have the car trailered back home. Was offered £120.00 for scrap, but put it on ebay for 0.99p and got £1550.00 for it spares or repair. Worth a go?
Having to buy a new car has somewht buggered up my Bonneville replacement though!

What's going wrong with these cars ???? Maybe the hot weather has given them a real shock !

@ Steve Lovatt - I know it's not what you wanted Steve, but you didn't do too badly selling your car at that price, in that condition. What you gonna get next then ???????????????

I'm off up to the Triumph dealer in Bourges this morning.................................................................................

Steve - yes a bit of a blow. You did well though. I did think about just getting it away from the dealers and trying something like that but I wouldn't have anywhere to keep it until it went (if it did). I was less than happy but didn't think I had any choice. In the end it was spend £1500 at least (on a car worth £2500) to get it running with no guarantee there wasn't any other damage to the engine or let them have the car and get another one as soon as possible. Although I can live without one most of the time my wife needs one to visit her very elderly parents twice a week on the other side of Worthing and a car is the only viable way. Also we're driving to Spain at the end of August with the dog to stay with my old band mate at his casa rural (great place for biking btw - little traffic, brilliant roads and Casa Zalama is a real treat) so a car was needed quickly!

In the end they gave me £600 in p/ex and I bought an 18 month old Berlingo with only 5000 miles on the clock (which oddly enough was the model I was originally went to the dealers to buy 7 years ago!). I still reckon I was taken for a bit of a ride given that there were 2 brand new tyres (it was due an mot) and £40 worth of diesel in the Picasso. I should have thought about it at the time and got them to siphon it out and put it in the new car but being the useless tosser that I am I didn't think about it!

Dave: I thought you were going for a Speedy rather than a Tiger. Change of heart?

No Dave, I was really pleased with the price I got - thought I might get £800.00 as a similar one had gone for that on ebay before - of course there is that moment when it's still at 0.99p with no bids!

Never owned a convertible - closest driving experience to biking I suppose (actually that would be a Caterham or Ariel Atom) - so have bought a Saab 93. Early days but well pleased with it - always liked Saabs, they are well built and just a bit different from the norm. All engines are turbocharged even though it's not advertised like it was in the 80's!
Should be paid out by the insurance company for the Bonneville soon even though I will be £350.00 down on what I paid for it, but that's to be expected.

Spoke to the engineer and it's properly buggered - forks bent, top yoke knackered, gear box damaged and more so not worth trying to salvage and repair myself. Nothing around at the moment much under £4000.00 so it will have to wait until next year now.

I think that was the best option in the end folkbloke but you'll always get taken for a ride somewhere down the line mate! Any way, hope you enjoy the trip down to Spain.

    Thanks Steve.

Taken for a ride. Perhaps I should write a song about it....

I had a Saab 9000 for 7 years. Brilliant car but expensive to run and with 180,000 on the clock it was starting to need a lot of attention (not as much as a Citroen with less than 80k on the clock!). I still miss it though :(

Sorry to hear about the extent of the bike damage. Good luck with finding another one. When I spoke to the manager at Destination Triumph in Washington (10 miles north of Worthing) when I took my suit back he reckoned they were reducing a lot of prices so it might be worth trying them as they have place at Solent as well that's not too far from you in Winchester.

Hopefully the trip to Spain will be OK but I've got to get to France first and Kent appears to be a no-go area ..... hopefully it might have settled down by September.

Nice motors the 9000 - last of the proper Saabs - they're a bit GM now. Yeah, not as economical as the Merc but you did well with 180,000 miles.
Destination Triumph is not far, so may be worth a look - cheers.

Same problem for us - we have the tunnel booked for our trip to Germany at the end of August but looks like it might be an issue still by then - hope you manage to get through!
