If you get the early ferry, about 4:00 am or something silly, coast road is empty and a blast. Rode it up to NW200 a few years back. Bloody long day, but fantastic.

I'm glad to hear this as I was worried that being a track and you went off it TomTom would just replan you on quickest route to destination if there is the option of another route

Well after buggering about with various options involving the mobile with some limited success I decided to get a proper dedicated sat nav. Getting audio directions from the phone is OK and will get you there, wherever there is, but I do miss being able to look at the map occasionally to see the road layout ahead.

Yesterday I took delivery of a new TomTom Rider 410. Today's job is to get it mounted on the Bonnie and wired up.

@Dougie D - stuck a couple of routes I am proposing to use next monday on a run up to Ellon in Aberdeenshire. Middle bits pass through your neck of the woods, have a wee squint and tell me if they look Ok or if there are better roads nearby ? Cheers:cool:

And the best bit, it's for work, get paid for riding my bike, get petrol paid, hotel, evening meal and breakfast all courtesy of you tax payers !!!!:laughing::laughing: :kissing_heart: have to work for a couple of hours Tuesday mornig, but it's worth it

ok will have a look,me and the mrs were up at Ellon in February (not on the bike!) stayed at the "New Inn" courtesy of Regatta as i was up booking stuff for next winter! Are you going up and down in the one day or staying overnight? the obvious route would be to go up by Braemar which is a brilliant road but I'll have a look and see for an alternative route back home for you:)
EDIT just noticed your'e getting a hotel! doing it in the one day would be a long day right enough!!

LOL, staying at the New inn too!!! Not my choice, just what given by the company. Phoned and spoke to them, OK to put bike round the back.
Looking at 300 miles up and 250 back, as I do have a couple of hours work to do on the Tuesday morning.

New Inn is a nice place and the food is pretty good:) had a look at your route up looks Great:),If you look in myroute-app you will see i have done an alternative route once you get to Ballater although it will add about 50 miles onto the route but worth it,
I've also done an alternative route home via the cairn o mount road,I've placed a viewpoint on the road where bikes usually stop off (not sure if it will still be there when you copy route),although you can't miss it it's a big layby with a great view it leads you into Brechin then a back road to Forfar, waypoint 8 is a cottage called the Davidson Legacy it's where the father of the Davidson guy from Harley Davidson was born it's rented out as a B&B now and done up inside like it would have looked over 100 years ago, whoever is in the B&B has to let folk in to have a look around! Then the route takes you to Blair/Crieff then over by Knockhill and on to the Glendevon Rd which is a belter :)

PS done another route from Ballater although you have to skirt Aberdeen but the Ballater to Aberdeen road is great..Decisions, Decisions

@MrOrange me and the mrs were out a run today and came back by the cairn o'mount road and there was a sign beside the clattering bridge saying the road will be shut for 2 weeks from Monday the 22nd May..bang goes that route home for you:( i would just go back via Braemar, you can never get enough of that road:) then i would take the Blair/Crieff/Glendevon Road to Dunfermline then home whatever way you fancy from the forth bridge

Just got back from a ride.

Is there a way to report a new speed camera?

My TomTom Rider 410 is new and up to date but there is a very shiny looking Truvelo camera on the A61 going into Clay Cross that isn't in the database.

I got a camera warning but it was for an older looking camera on my side of the road for the oncoming traffic. A couple of hundred yards further on there's the new camera on the other side of the road for traffic going my direction but no warning.

I've saved the location on my sat nav and found the option to report it as a map change, a new one way or junction etc. but not as a speed camera.

Just done my first long distance ride using only the Sat-Nav with a route drawn up on MyRoute. All went well and the route was surprisingly accurate to what I had planned, even following a couple of mistakes I made, but was happy to reroute straight back onto the route.

Only hiccup was wanting to take me up the east side of Loch Tay for some reason??? But other than that all went well. I actually chose to ignore it at one point, because I knew better, would have been better to follow the sat-nav, but just didn't trust it, silly me!

550 mile round trip, was impressed that it was able to get me there, and exactly on the route planned. Just have to learn to trust it and to be a little more careful on the roads used. Plus a few extra waypoints, to ensure the garmin uses the exact same roads as MyRoute planner used.

Hey Mr O 550 miles is a right good ride. How did you break that up, was it in one day or over a couple of days?

Was over two days, had a full day to get there, so took scenic route, couple of hours work Tuesday and then back down, still managed to string a nice route of 250 miles with minimal motorway.

Great stuff, the more waypoints the more accurate but make sure you zoom in and put them in the right place!!

Can you use the skip command? My garmin does that until you reach a point, then routes, or just skip, and it draws a full route.

Mine does that as well(BMW Nav V)
The easiest way is to delete a waypoint.
If you look at mt routes I always put 2 waypoints close together at the start.Delete one and it will re calculate the route correctly.

Sorted that for you mate. New route in the group for you. Newton Stewart to the M74 is an absolute belter, mix of everything except busy or dual. Newton Stewart to Dalry fast and open, dalry to Thornhill tight and twisty, Thornhill to M74 is a must ride road, called Dalveen Pass, think TT mountain section !!!!

Stay off motorway and on towards edinburgh, another belter, once through twisty bit, really quick bit of road. Messy around Edinburgh, but needs must.

Route needs more points and check for closeness to road, just threw it on quickly, but once off A75 until outskirts of Edinburgh, you'll get no traffic and unlikely boys in blue either.

    What day you riding up?
