That's a pile of poo Dealy. Mine got worse and worse until the dealer eventually had to replace the discs. I feel rather insulted that they would say I was "gently" using it. Twats.

I'm still waiting for a reply to my latest email about dress codes for cruisers but I'll be sure to let you know.

    Gateshead, Tyne & Wear,
I'v got a problem with a flat spot at 4000rpm on my 2011 speed triple it's only got 6000 on the clock. I bought the bike with 600 miles on from a Honda dealer after my local Triumph dealer in Newcastle offered me a £1,000 less for my low mileage Tiger 1050. I noticed the flat spot when I was running the bike in but thought it might get better but no luck,
I asked Triumph northeast if they could help with the problem under warranty but they didn't want to know, the bikes now 3 year old and I have now taken it to A1 Motor in York and they have been really helpful, they found that the throttle position sensor voltage was wrong plus a couple of other things that they have put right. The main thing is the throttle bodies are out of balance and its booked in to be done in two weeks time (2 hour job = £100). I emailed Triumph to see if they would help and all they said was that the throttle bodies are part of the service, even though its had this flat spot from new, so no help there then.

My bike will be 20 years old next month. I don't have to endure Triumph dealers any more, although I have no problems with my two nearest ones (Conisbrough and York, though with a slight preference for the former!).
    YIIPPEEEEEEEE!! :):D:D
Having a good independent not too far away (Adi's Workshop at West Cowick near Snaith) is always an advantage!! :D:D

Did you mean 2 years old, or do you get extra special guarantees in UK ?

Dealy, I think you might find BMW owners have similar reservations about BMW service ;)

I had a series of boxer twins between '98 and 2002 and the service I got from Wollaston's in Northampton was second to none.

Always had a loan bike when mine was being serviced; if ever there was any issue I was not happy with, it was rectified without question or qualm and when I chopped one in for the next one I got really great deals.

Richard is the boss of the bike section there and is a first class individual to do business with.

In the early 80s I had an R100RT that burst into flames when I switched it on one day. It turned out to be a poorly routed part of the wiring loom that was rubbing on a sharp edge by the condenser. It was out of warranty by that time so I contacted one of the BMW used parts companies. They told me it was a common problem with that model and had sold a number of wiring looms for that reason. I contacted BMW quoting what I'd been told. They claimed there had never been an issue with the wiring loom.

When I had a GS there were always forum threads about poor service and BMW themselves not being particularly helpful.

My GS was a year old when I bought it and the spokes were already looking bad. One day at a bike cafe another GS owner said it was a common problem in bikes of that age. They said BMW were aware of it and in some dealers had replaced them. I again wrote to BMW quoting various forum posts and I got a polite "piss off" response. Mind you, I kept that bike for 10 years and 60,000 miles with no major issues and still rather regret selling it to buy the Tiger.

It's not just bikes. My year old Citroen Picasso had an issue with the automatic clutch. I complained about it when I took it for a service and the dealers said they couldn't find anything wrong. I complained about it at the next service after that and still the dealer said there was nothing wrong. Once out of warranty 2 years later the dealers told me the clutch needed replacing! I took this up with Citroen saying that I'd been complaining about it for 2 years. Citroen weren't interested. It was out of warranty and they weren't going to pay for it.

In the end it seems to me that you get good and bad dealers for all makes and the manufacturers are no better. Sometimes you'll get a positive response and sometimes not. C'est la vie.....

    No and no!!

What I meant was that for many years I have felt no need or desire to utilise the services of Triumph dealers, when it is not necessary due to the age of me bike (and quite probably my own age!) and the convenience and quality of a local independent! Cheaper too! :) (Bloody Yorkshireman!!). :D:D:p

I can see how you could misinterpret that wot I said! :p

Should I throw a party for my bikes' 20th birthday next month?? Hmm ... perhaps not, SWMBO will probably be on radiotherapy, or worse still, chemotherapy by then!:eek:

After 2 cancellations by BMW Braintree on a test ride of the s1000r 'due to the bike not being ready' I went straight to triumph in great dunmow and put a deposite down on my speed.

I think its a general ignorance of all dealers, received rubbish service from vw after buying a cc from there!

Triumph have replied to my email about my leaking Navigator suit.

They told me to take it back and get a refund. So, all sorted then. I'm thinking Rukka now... or maybe just keep my old RST jacket and get a cheap pair of plastic overtrousers ;)

Good news on the refund - I know the overtrousers don't look very smart but I found them to be totally effective on my recent visit, plus they are a fraction of the price.

Oddly enough I found my 30 year old Rukka waterproof trousers today. I thought they had been lost years ago but they were in the basement all the time. I wonder if they still work and more importantly, fit me?

I was on the bike today wearing the Navigator suit and got caught in the rain and I was so pleased the trousers were still leaking ;)

Next week Dave. I might need the money as well as I think the turbo on the Picasso may have gone. Lost power on Thursday and it went into limp mode. Just about to limp it to the dealers.....

I have heard that disc judder can be caused by stiff or locked bobbins which allow the disc to float.
This can be rectified by using brake cleaner to free up the bobbins.
If you check out Delboys garage on utube he explains how to do it.
    Hope this helps you out.
