We can have up to two people over to visit Nikki, and keeping distance is easy. Welcome anytime!

Ok back to the HiFi ain't one of you old pharts going to post a picture of your beloved 16 track Teac reel to reel tape deck. If not I may have to drag the 1980 Teac A601R IRC out of the basement into the garage and pop in a cassette into this auto reverse machine. Still probably better than that MP shite. 79 Onkyo A70 amp that survived college, turntable, Yamaha cd player, and other stuff abandoned in a closet, because I was a family man now, and isolating and listening to music was just not politically correct. She pyscho now. So WTH

That TEAC machine is quite a bit of kit! $650 back in 1978. :grinning:

Just completed another hobo stove... a twig burning “gasification” job, using one of the 1 litre beer cans I had last week!

Yes, that was the $650 MSRP, but I was a part time shipping clerk for a electronic distributor and got it at cost, less than $325 IRC in 80.

Ha, nice one. That still equates to around $1500 today so not a cheap bit of kit.
Top end open reel machines are generally considered to be the creme-de-la-creme but they are an even bigger pain in the arse than vinyl !!
I do have a rather nice CD player for when I can't be arsed with the records. It's a 1988 SONY CDP-X779es that I got free as the laser was dead. That's usually the end of the line for these but I found a guy in Germany who could repair it and he did so for around £300. Equivalent price today would be around £6k.

My good stereo gear is in my “recording studio”...:laughing::laughing: (read :- box room, computer room and in house getaway... Nad amp and CD player to some Wharfdale diamonds) but my garage holds my second separates set-up... Hitachi amp and Technics player mounted below desk... roof mounted Jamo’s cos I don’t have floor space!!!
