i guess it all depends if you would be putting all the extras on the newer one?,if not i'd go for the 2014 and ask him what his very best price is,say you have £5k to spend and see what price he comes up with;)

the extras are not so important, they are nothing :- a quick shifter, if you are driving on the road why do you need this,
arrow exhaust:- are you going to tell me that you can feel the difference in weight or output from the standard ,designed by the manufacturer, o e m part, cos I could not. So if you follow this thinking then its all down to dealer stamps and service costs cos next buyer will want these ( to many others that have it to choose from ) . Good luck

Ps if the 13 14 thou one has not had its valves done I would take the low milage one cheers.

You need to carefully check anything out on Gumtree. Be meticulous.

    Yeah, fair point.
Being a newb to the land of motorcycles I have only seen a few triples over 14k miles so I guess I'm basing
my opinion on that, especially if their only say 3 years old.
But anyway, test ride the shed out of a few and see where the wind or should that be wallet takes me! :)

Three years ago I bought an eighteen year old Honda CBR600F with 50,000 miles on. No smoke, no rattles, no leaks, valves set right, carbs balanced, clean oil, ran perfectly. Sorry I sold it.

I bought a Honda 250 K2 with 11,000 miles on the clock and regret to this day that I traded it in for a Triumph Daytona when I passed my bike test.
My apologies to the diehard Triumph brigade but the Daytona was beaten on every score by the Honda.
I actually wish I had kept All my bikes now, but don't we all!

What does matter with all things mechanical is how they are looked after and serviced.
Good quality engine oil and filter changed at the correct intervals makes an absolute world of difference to the longevity of any engine/gearbox.
Always ask searching questions when buying, not just taking for granted that a dealers stamp guarantees a brilliantly maintained bike.
It's what goes on between the main services as well. What has had to be replaced and why?
Use your sight, sound, smell and feel, (yes I'm still talking about bikes lol) and never let your heart rule your head when buying.

I'm rebuilding a K2 right now. Maybe you can have a ride when it's done as you're only over a hill or two from me.

Bloody hell, I would certainly take you up on that.
Send some pics if you can during the build.
Mine had a blue and white tank and it would do a genuine ton.

I have an old black and white picture somewhere, I'll dig it out.
I paid £40 for it from a guy in Skipton who had come off it with minimal damage to either bike or himself, but it had put him off riding and the bike had been stood for a few years under a tarpaulin.
What a buy! went all over on it, can't remember the exact mileage I put on, but it was my only mode of transport and then I treacherously traded it in.
I once remember racing one of the newer gold/black tank K3 on the Ilkley to Bolton Abbey road and it left him standing.

15k miles is nothing so long as it's been properly maintained, and extras don't necessarily mean it's been abused. If the 13 plate is the cheaper of the two then it might be the better deal, especially if it's had the 500, 6k and 12k services done at a recognised Triumph service agent.

To get a feel for going sale rather than asking prices go to the ebay advanced search and search on completed listings. There might be a few private and dealer ones there to give you an idea.

on the face of it I would be sorely tempted by the 13 plate because my annual mileage is low so over time the average on that bike would look normal when it came to resale.

Also make sure you check the HPI register before parting with cash on Gumtree.
