they sold me my Triumphs in the 1980s and are still in business for spares. My first bike was a Tiger Cub ... great fun and what motor bikes are all about

    Hi Ed
bantamcub.co.uk is an excellent site for everything for cubs. Dragonfly Motorcycles have huge stocks of Triumph parts, including the Tiger Cubs, they have just completed logging all the Triumph spares they bought up from a well known source who was retiring, and I mean massive stocks. Hope this helps and good luck with your resto, it may be worth joining the TOMCC as they now have a dedicated Cub and Terrier site, you can pick up lots of great buys through other members and NOS at discount.

Finally I have sorted that picture! It wasn't long ago it was in quite a few bits. But I've been busy and its been collecting dust since I made it look like a motorcycle again! I'm planning to get it running then take it apart again and do a mechanical restoration.:grinning: I actually don't want to re-spray and all that. Quite keen to make it into a usable bike that I look after but use. If I make it too shiny I will be scared to use it!

Ok, sorry to be a complete and utter numpty. But does anyone know if I can use the later style condenser, on the ealier style distributor? It seems that the early style is simply not available. If it is doing the same thing with the electrical. then I could just cut the extra connection point off in order to make it fit and then work?

    Go for it Ed. :grinning:
My philosophy is bikes need to be used, providing pleasure and value. If something is too precious, then it becomes, in your words, "scary" and often ends up hidden at the back of a garage under sheets, never seen or ridden.

That's very kind of you! And a greatly appreciated offer. I might take you up on that offer if the one I have ordered for the later Tiger cub model doesn't work! I will send you a message if I am in need of one. :grinning:

    Hi Ed
Re the condenser, a 6 or 12 volt will do. Irrespective of the applied primary voltage (6v 12v 24v), condensers are made to withstand the flyback or reverse EMF voltage made by the coil as the magnetic field collapses when the points open, the condensors have an insulating breakdown of up to 200 volts when new, hence you can put a suitable sized one for car or motorcycle in and it will work fine, car ones are a lot cheaper as well, anything electrical for classic bikes seem to cost more than those for 4 wheel classics for some reason. It's a lovely little bike by the way, I've been looking for one for some time now, most are over priced, seen some for 6k or more, bloody crazy, not sure if they ever sell though.
