Respectful agree to disagree. Though the tank is somewhat divided into 2 at the top which you can see when filling it up. Not at the bottom where the fuel pump,is, or there would be 2 pumps. Its a metal tank and not a fuel cell. Yes, the cap is vented and there is a vent tube which exits out from the bottom via a tube. In 3 years , full or near empty, never have i smell petrol. Hot or cold garage. Petrol fumes can ignite with a spark. So, like others have said, take it in, its not supposed to be and dangerous. As far as running hot, sometimes in stop and go traffic the fans come on an temp goes back to normal range.
Phil, I can only report everyone as I find it with my Thruxton R. I have owned the motorcycle since new , it is now 2 1/2 years old & has now covered over 11,000 miles. I have experienced the same issues on three occasions, but only when in very hot weather & with a low fuel level. The bike has run faultlessly & there are absolutely no leaks evident. There was a recall on some of the models with regard to a faulty fuel pipe snap connector to the fuel pump. My particular motorcycle is not part of the category. But I suggest that Dave contacts his dealer with his VIN Number to check if his motorcycle was indeed one of those that should have been recalled.
I have a 1200 standard and yes mine runs hot quicker than most other bikes I’ve owned but it never seems to cause a problem. No smell of petrol in the garage though
