Not mine mate, mine were done at Triumph Birmingham.

Surprised they can do that, would have thought they would need to go back to Triumph under the warranty conditions.

I have done 646 miles on my R and have the same scuffs on my Ohlins both sides. My bike is booked in for it's first service tomorrow (Thurs 16th). I emailed my dealer last Sunday evening with photo's of the scuffs saying I wasn't impressed. At 3pm Monday afternoon my dealer phoned me to say that they will replace them under warranty at my first service tomorrow. Very impressed with the dealer.

If the wear and tear on a bike is down to me obviously that's part of bike ownership. But having scuffs on a 12 grand bike with less than a 1000 miles on the clock due to a design fault is a matter of prinicple in my opinion (plus im a fussy git). If enough people complain then hopefully they will get it right next time. This must have been a costly excerise for Ohlins.

 

Has anyone not been able to adjust the rear springs yet.Tools were supplied.Took the bike to Alpha suspension yesterday and he can't loosen the rings? He thinks there may be a circlip inside and the shock needs to be removed?....this can't be right.

i must say I'm surprised that Triumph are replacing shocks with this issue. The plastic sleeve seems to be there to prevent the spring under load touching the shock body, it looks as if it's just doing its job?

I took my bike to Tillitt Suspension yesterday, still finding the ride very hard. I had a very useful discussion with Darren, his view is my Ohlins are very firm even on the soft setting. Possibly the gas pressure is low too. He will check this. The preload rings are set as low as poss but he says there is still significant preload there, he will reset the circlip into the higher groove above the rings. Preload sets suspension height but with progressive springs as on the R preload also firms up the suspension.

He says all the Showa forks he has seen with top adjusters tend to be very firm. He will change the oil to the thinnest type, we'll see if this makes my R a little less bone-jarring.

 

So I've spoken to Triumph and whilst they supply the spring adjuster spanners, you still need to do a lot more than loosen and adjust to change the settings....not good

 

These new ones look much better anyway.

 

Agree, they do look better. It looks like they have simply substituted a thin clear sleeve for the black one, can't see any other changes.

 

Me too... I could suddenly find I can't live with the scuffing...

 

I was going to get mine powder coated gloss black, a mate of mine had some done and look good..

I got my springs from Kais and cost £120:00 as opposed to £20:00 powder coating.....your choice.

 

If you can do that yourself then that's the way to go...I decided to buy the springs and the dealer fitted them when changing the shocks under warranty.

 

I can't notice any difference whatsoever from the original ones.

 

I bought my R in Oct last year and have done around 960 miles and both shocks have scuff marks, took pictures to local dealer who phoned Triumph who they say have agreed to replace them. Will have to wait to see if it happens.

 

Think it's a fairly recognised complaint now, sure they'll change them for you.
