I should be able to set it up. I've got some experience with setting up multi adjustable suspension and know what compression, rebound and preload actually do.

There are... and that might be a good option for some. Personally, I'd prefer to figure it out for myself so I can adjust it for changing circumstances rather then having to take the bike back to them every time I change tyres, take luggage, etc. Having played with it enough to figure it out, if I do take it on a track day I'll be able to quickly dial up the ideal settings for myself that day. If I'd outsourced that to someone else I'd have to dial in what they'd advised months before not knowing what tyres I'd be using, temperature, what weight I was carrying, how smooth the track... and I'd have no idea how to tweak it if it wasn't right.

It's a modern myth that everything can be outsourced to someone else. Almost everything *can* be outsourced these days but when you do, you often 'outsource' a lot more than your realise, imho.

Suspension set up isn't all that complicated. It gets a little more complicated when you have separate high and low speed damping but even then it's not too tricky once you understand what they do.

Fair play for your circumstances you make a good point.
I have no intention of taking it on a track or attaching luggage. It would be nice to understand it further if I had the time. I was hoping if I paid once I might get to ask questions and get a better understanding.

There's quite a few online guides for suspension setup and the process is the same no matter what type of vehicle or shock. Its all a fairly logical process followed by tweaking to your personal taste.

I have a Thruxton which I bought a couple of years ago and I love it, I had a Triumph alarm fitted as well as panniers, My bike is green which I think is lovely as do others, I do not have much probably with wrist ache but then I have got long arms. I am hoping to travel from Croydon in Surrey to Newquay in Devon later this year. Good luck.

It’s pretty similar to my mountain bike front fork setup which I managed to do some time ago.
I think I will watch further vids and take some notes. I have watched the Ohlins video which is interesting.

I ride mountain bikes as well. Its amazing how high spec the suspension can be on them. My last bike had high & low speed compression & rebound plus spring preload adjustment both ends plus bottom out harshness adjustment on the front. When set right it gave me loads of grip and allowed me to plough through the nastiest rock gardens. I wish I didn't sell that bike.

Had a really good chat with Ben at BG motorsport based at silverstone.
They have worked on plenty of Thruxton R/RS also on popup stands.
One of the first questions he asked was my weight. If I weigh in excess of 90kg excluding gear or carry pillions he pointed out that the rear springs may need upgrading as I’m on the cusp. They will do a full check for me and if needs be swap the springs whilst there.
Another bonus is possibly gaining black springs over the yellow ones.

The analogy ‘modern myth outsourcing to someone else’ should be used loosely. It is possible that no amount of tweaking settings alone will achieve the correct setup for me so worth bearing in mind.
I can’t comment on your circumstances as you might have the perfect setup for you without the need of upgrades.

Triumph have verified that they have used these guys many of a time.

Most importantly the cost aspect seems very reasonable for anyone who has been mulling over their suspension for a while. Once the springs come in I will be getting booked in. I will post an update after my visit in August.

I will add this post into the Thruxton suspension section also.
