Thanks for sharing that Adie, a lot of decisions had to be made after those strikes, like having done away with guns on fighters and relying on missiles those Mig 21's where an awesome piece of kit for the time. and misjudging the range of those sam's

Penguins and the local bennies to play with you did not miss much Dilli, Ascension runway has been out of use for ages now but I bet it would have been sorted if Pritti Patel had got her way to use Ascension as a refugee camp.

I was there on HMS dumbarton castle for 6 months, stuck in 1 place.
2 days before I flew out, a rope got itself around the prop shaft, bent it and that was that.
Cost more to fix it (there were only 2 built hms leeds castle) than to build another so it got towed back (after I left) and scrapped.
Lot's of time spent on duty at 12-4am, watching vultures and penguins!

Wow! The Falklands has changed by the looks of it. Looks almost civilised! Spent a year of my life down there in two x 6 month stints (early 83 and 84). There only was one main harbour in Stanley. The Wildlife was so unused to seeing humans that the birds (feathered variety) would just land on you if you lay down. I remember actually being able to hold a penguin without it struggling at all

On a pretty awesome story we went to South Georgia and 6 of us got off to explore the old whaling station for the day. Strange to be the only people on the island. My second name is "Sprott" which is not exactly common but on exploring the six graves in the old whaling station graveyard, one of them was some distant relation! The chances of me getting off the ship and the name being on the graveyard must have been millions to one.

The photo is fairly recent with the new ro-ro berth. Didn’t look like that 25 yrs ago! I best remember Commerson’s Dolphins chasing small boats and the LCVP like mini Orca - which are of course dolphins.

This photo reminds of the time some 20 White Beaked Dolphins came to play around the yacht when we were rounding Cape Wrath on our way to Stromness. Beautiful.
