Yes, I do typically watch the Tour de France, @Dawsy. This year I've only been watching it now and again though Mr. Sandi is following it fairly closely. I do love seeing all the gorgeous European scenery and the charming little towns through which the peloton rides. But I don't recall seeing Mont St. Michel in the past. I'll certainly watch for it in the future! Thanks for the heads up. :) BTW, I did watch today's Tour stage--which was painfully spectacular! :grinning::joy:

    Steam from the kettle rises
It blends with the mist at the window.
    Yorkshire tea bag bobbles.
    A glimmer of hope.

    Summer bids a slow farewell.
Only the trickling rain in the gutter for company
    Dark Triumph crouches.
    Wrapped in canvas.

    I stand on the drive.
    Drops polluting my tea
    The world in sepia
    Closing in.

    The Lord waters His earth.
    Giving life to all.
    Distant thunder
    What about me?

    Nice one @Hobnail

I wrote this the other day for a friend

    Steam

The locomotive drives the train on.
Cast iron wheels bite the track,
    Sheer weight and torque combine
And load the axle mounts with energy
    Inertia is overcome.
Initially, in a state of frenzy,
    Friction may let go
And in a brief lack of composure
The steam, the wheels and noise
Blend in an exciting moment of release.
    But the spinning quickly stops
And the imposing impression of power returns.
    Fires burn, cauldrons bubble
    And almost magically...
    Steam fills chambers,
    Pushes pistons,
Drives push-rods and rockers and wheels
Until heat turns into a linear motion
And a drum rhythm beats in through the windows.
    The boy watches the countryside
    As vista displaces vista.
    A mesmeric experience, meditative...
And should the contemplation be broken,
He knows where to find it again...
    His haven!

    Well done @DCS222 .

Good verse needs to be spoke aloud in order to get the full impact. Cadence and pauses add greatly. I spoke yours to hear the words. Started with urgency, pausing near the end to become reflective. Nice.
