CORRECT, and on the edge of monument valley is a lodge where they have all the wild west history including the films made there

 

That's really cool, @Don the Don! I didn't know about that lodge and the list of films made in Monument Valley. Another major studio that was used for scores and scores of Westerns as well as some non-Westerns is Old Tucson Studios on the west side of Tucson out near Saguaro National Park. @David Cooper, I looked to see if any of John Wayne's movies were filmed at Old Tucson. Turns out four of them were--Rio Bravo, McLintock, El Dorado, and Rio Lobo.

Here are a few photos of Monument Valley on my first long motorcycle trip. It's really amazing to ride near and between those formations. They truly are "monumental". At the time I had this silver bike, a 2012 H-D Dyna Switchback, and I also had a 2012 Triumph Thruxton.

 

Seen them all. loved them all, I love western movies.

What are your favorites, David?? Two of my favorite westerns are Clint Eastwood films--Unforgiven and The Outlaw Josey Wales. I also liked Pale Rider. I really liked Hell or High Water (Taylor Sheridan) too, but I guess that's what is called a "neo-Western" according to some of the review sites.

 

A rainbow over our Catalina Mountains on Christmas Day. Today the mountains were beautifully frosted with snow. This is our view during our afternoon dog walk on the river path.

 

I love western movies, once upon a time in the west is a great one. Lots to do and see west of the Mississippi in the USA. Distances are vast so planning fuel points on a bike can be an issue. Motorcycle dealer or repair can be 150+ miles.

 

In the UK our concept of distance is rather short compared to some parts of the world, Been to places and someone says I know a great place for a meal lets go 100 miles later "are we there yet"

Steak was good and was bigger than the plate, I think they just cut off the horns and wiped its ass there was a western show outside afterwards as well, happy days.

 

Once Upon a Time in the West, any John Wayne or Clint Eastwood western,basically anything with cowboys and hosses in it, except Brokeback Mountain I aint watching that.

 

I'm partial to Clint Eastwood all the way around, Ducky. I think his acting, directing, and musical abilities are amazing. I remember being quite surprised about the music when I learned he'd written the score (or at least some of it) for Mystic River.
