Wee run to Kirriemuir (a small town in Angus, Population 6k) to get the obligatory photo of my bike with Bon Scott (who spent his early years in kirrie)...and Peter Pan, who's author J M Barrie was born in Kirrie. useless piece of info... David Niven the famous actor claimed to have been born in Kirrie although wikipedia says it was London

    Hi,
Would any R3 owner care to do a long ish term appraisal on their R3?
Also, would you make the same choice again?
Any issues at all to report, mechanical or otherwise?
    Any QC issues?
    Appreciated in advance, Ken.

I've only done 3k on mine, but i might be taking it on a tour of Ireland shortly so it will be over 5k by the time i get home, so maybe I'll be in more of a position to give a better report re touring.
i bought it as a cruiser bike to replace my Harley, but I'm only now starting to be able to ride it as a cruiser, not very often though, as it has a severe lack of character if you ride it slow,(It's crying out for a louder exhaust) i normally ride it like a big Speed Triple.
I've had a few issues with it, the "Dummy" radiator cap was ready to fall off when i got back from a run several weeks ago, i don't know how i didn't loose it, the design of it is terrible it just won't fit properly. the dealer is sending me a new one, i think they have modified it somehow.
i was recently having problems getting it into neutral so i phoned the dealer and he asked me if i had checked the oil, when i did there was no oil on the dip stick, i couldn't understand it as there was no oil light coming on, it turns out they didn't fit a seal somewhere and when you turn of the engine all the oil drains into a "void" as he put it. there is oil in the engine but it doesn't show on the dip stick when you go through the process of leaving it for 3 mins to check it, how they managed to forget to fit a seal is anybody's guess!!
Just as well i didn't check it earlier as i would have topped it up meaning there would have been far too much oil in it! they had to have the bike for a couple of days as the engine needs to be stripped to fit the seal,( there was a guy from Shetland who had his Rocket in the dealers with the same problem. so it's obviously not a one off! If you go through the correct procedure for checking the oil and the level is correct on the dipstick it has the seal fitted.
Finding neutral now is easier but not perfect. Apart from that the bike is brilliant, really comfortable, handles great and the torque on it has to be experienced! it is a bit thirsty which i expected, fuel light comes on about 100 miles, i think I'm getting about 35mpg. maybe it's my imagination but i think the exhaust is slightly louder now it has a few miles on it, which is a good thing! watching various you tube reviews the GT seems to handle the twisties better than the R, i think the bars on the GT help with this.
