Beautiful photos, DCS. I particularly like the one with the suns rays and the one with swan. Sometimes I call those rides like this one "wonder rides"--as in, "I wonder where we're going?"

Your bike (and route) is looking good, @Phil G P! I'm curious about that white top box you have on your bike. What's the story?

All I need to carry is my camera and maybe a snack for a day out.
So I dont have a need or a desire to fit a massive ugly plastic top box on it, so I found a small aluminium flight case which can be had for around £15 on ebay.
I designed and made a quick release coupling system using some machined and some 3D printed parts, it can be removed/installed in about 10 seconds.

Very cool, Phil! Could you share a few photos of your system and case at some point so we can see a few of the details? Thanks!

Had to look up "sardines", @Bikerman. And it's just not true that I want his sardines. What I really want is that top case. ;)

Another beautiful day in Cornwall. Looks like a good week ahead too. Time to get the Rocket out I think

I'm in the same boat, SleepOwl. I did spring for a cool new camera (Olympus mirrorless) and it's waiting for me to charge up its new little battery and read about how to use it! I'm off on fall break this week and doing that is high on my To Do list. I've wanted to bring it on trips but didn't want to be in the position of learning how to use it while actually on a trip knowing I'd probably mess up plenty until I get the new gadget figured out--at least the basics. I think your photos look great, iPhone or not!

Sounds like a great choice on the Olympus Sandi. I am definitely going to look into one but you cant beat the simplicity of just pulling out a phone to take pics. Look forward to seeing your pics. Maybe you should start a "bikes and camera" thread once you get sorted.

Whilst I appreciate and agree the value of single purpose items if technology as being superior to multifunctional gadgets, I always remember the familiar quote by some photographer I can’t remember. I paraphrase by saying the “best camera is the one I have with me” - this was given in answer to if his Hasselblad or another camera was his best.

For me (and I have been a photographic nut) my iPhone wins hands down over my super expensive Canon DSLR and expensive lens(es).

This is because a) I always have my phone with me and b) the quality is awesome.

If ever I need a better camera now - I’ll upgrade my phone rather than my journalist standard DSLR.

The DSLR hasn’t moved for months.

I must admit, I have a reasonable Cannon dslr and an older but good quality for the time digital video recorder. Both have nice carry bags with all their gear in and stay at home because my phone is in my pocket.

I'm on the same boat, the big heavy expensive DSLR stays home.
Sometimes I'll bring the mirrorless with me, and yes it takes better images than my phone, but it can not beat how practical the phone is.

I completely agree. My DSLR has not come out of the camera bag for years. I took it on tour to Scotland earlier this year and never used it. The iPhone camera is good enough to match my photographic ability.

I wound up trading all of my Canon DSLR gear for my Olympus mirrorless camera and a couple of lenses. Found I just wasn't using the Canon equipment at all and it was just taking up space. It's nice to have newer--and smaller--technology, too. That said, the phone is definitely practical! I'd have missed lots of fun, interesting spur-of-the-moment shots without it.
