On one of his programs he just kept going on and on about the Isle of Man man. FFS Henry, It’s the Isle of Man,man

 

Oh, you mean he's stopped the near constant use of the word "RIGHT?"! RIGHT?

 

Strings of humour like this is why I love the Triumph Forum.

 

As long as he keeps making motorbike programmes he gets my vote. Yes he's a bit of a donkey sometimes, with his fake accent and annoying, affected cough, but he loves bikes, gives us a variety of machines to drool over (or not) and has some extremely knowledgeable and talented friends to dilute his presence and emphasise his complete, self-confessed ignorance of how bikes work..which I find quite amusing. Keep up the good work Henry!

 

Funny, isn't it? Annoying personas on TV. I can't stand Mike Brewer from Wheeler Dealers and that guy Tim Shaw on Car SOS is an utter plank. I'm sure I couldn't do the job half as well myself, but I don't pretend to have the skill set to do so. Why then do we suffer these muppets? It almost like a comedy double act; they have straight man (mechanic) who does all the work and it's their part of the show I find interesting and the knobhead who tosses around trying to look useful. Whilst I'm on a rant, that Drew Pritchard guy on Car restoration is another person who I find excruciating to watch.

 

I agree with you, it's as if they feel we need to be constantly amused and suffer their idea of entertainment, otherwise we'd switch off. And more often than not they overdo it, to the point where it becomes so annoying it detracts from the programme.
It gives the programme the feeling that it's being dumbed down, so that even the brain-dead will stick with it and not get bored (or lost) by the interesting bits. I'm not suggesting that we lose the humour altogether and turn these programmes into documentary types. I think 'Bangers and Cash' have got it about right. If you like classic cars (and occasionally bikes) there's a lot of good stuff mixed with a touch of humour and a smidge of human interest (but not too much because does anyone actually care? Really?)

 

Was like watching a show narrated by Baldrick from Black Adder
Millward seemed to like him.
My favourite watch is Iron restoration for pure attention to detail with real guys doing the work and no plonker doing the talking

 

That’s pretty much my list. Mike Brewer acts like the dodgiest bomb site car dealer and Drew always looks like he’s ripping off the people he buys from plus his ‘restorations’ are decidedly iffy at lot of the time. Speedshop was far better IMHO if still a bit scrappy.

 

We do have an "eclectic" mix on this forum.

 

I can 100% vouch for Henry, met him a few times, he’s a really nice guy, I can understand that his presenting style winds some up but he’s a really interesting person to talk to in the flesh, very patient with plonkers talking drivel and wanting selfies!, I’d have told one bloke to P off when he wouldn’t stop talking and showing Henry countless photos of his CBR600, but Henry was a gent and gave him his time, I spoke to him for an hour once before a show, I kept making excuses to go but he wanted to talk!!, he can definitely do that , when I told him my father who was restoring a James Captain was down because my mother had dementia he did a video message for him to cheer him up and encourage him, now he didn’t have to do that!, he’s a great chap, try to get over the cheeky chappy camera persona and enjoy the show people

PS the only truly annoying thing I find is the fact that he used to date Paula Hamilton (the woman from the old VW golf advert), now that is irritating cos I would have liked to date her!!

She was very nice indeed, can't remember now what she said but I was a happy boy for the rest of the day.

 

Like him or not the guy is extremely passionate about motorcycles and all things related, he is a true petrol head, most I guess are unaware of his history, he was addicted to heroin and in a dark place, he is also well educated, motorcycling kind of saved him in a sense, also in the series are some of the most talented bike and engine builders in the business, Sam Lovegrove works absolute magic on anything mechanical, and Guy Willison is another talent on the show, Honda UK commissioned Guy to produce a limited edition CB1000R, he also produces his own specials for sale. Allen Millyard is regularly on the show, and in my view the most talented bike/engine builder I have ever met, a few years back in the pits at the TT when I was chatting to him, he was measuring (with permission) a Honda RC165 owned by Rob Iannucci of Team Obsolete, the ‘Six’ is the first example of Honda’s ground-breaking machine and is the only surviving RC165. Jim Redman first rode it, followed by Stuart Graham before Mike Hailwood took it to victory in the 1966 Czechoslovakian Grand Prix. Fast forward and Alan made a replica of this machine, he has made 4-5- and 6-cylinder 2 stroke machines, he made a V Twin Velocette that looks like it is a factory machine, the "flying milyard" is another and the list goes on and on. There is a lot on You Tube for those living outside the UK. Ride safe all from an ageing Rocker.

 

Another Millyard fan here, amazing what he achieves with relatively little resource.

 

A real artist I would say.

 

It hard not to be impressed by Mr Millyard, his motorcycle creations are fantastic. I do wish he would stop using the phrase "just perfect" when he describes how something turned out though.
