Steve and I don't currently have any motorcycle trips on the calendar. But I'm already starting to get the itch to get at least an over-nighter in the works. Something fairly close-to-home probably. But after staying at La Posada we are very motivated and interested in riding to Las Vegas, New Mexico because there are two historic hotels there that were both restored by the same couple as La Posada and one of which was a Fred Harvey hotel. That adventure may need to wait until spring, though, since Las Vegas NM sits at an elevation of 6,400' so they'll be seeing snow there soon. Here are photos of and links to these two hotels. We've become quite intrigued by the idea of doing motorcycle rides to historic (in U.S. years) hotels around the Southwest and when we do this ride to Las Vegas NM it will be a "two-fer".

Thanks for the positive comments and feedback, Nikki! Steve and I would LOVE to host a ride with you and show you around our Southwest "neighborhood"! You could ship Waspy or alternatively here's a company called Eagle Rider that rents bikes and they have different types from which to choose. The good thing about living close to a city as huge as Phoenix is that there are lots options available for things like that. Either way, flying into Phoenix would probably be relatively easy for you and we just live about 90 miles south of the Phoenix airport.

Yes, the crater was spectacular! Neither Steve nor I was particular excited about seeing it for the first time but we definitely changed our tune after we did see it. It was well worth the trip and we'd go there again--partly to take more time in the visitor center the second time around. And partly just to sit near the crater and quietly take it all in.

Yes, we are blessed with good weather here in Tucson and southern Arizona. I'm sorry to read that it was so cold on your camping trip. That must have been rather disappointing. When our temperatures are what they are these days we laugh that we've "paid" for themby tolerating all those back-to-back 100ºF+ days in the summer. But even with those frying pan temperatures in June, July, August, and September, I'd still rather be hot than cold.
