Hi Bobby and welcome to the forum.
I have a factory fitted data tool on my 2012 Bonnie and so far no issues.
I do have an Optimate charger which I have only used once as I use the bike almost daily.
Read your Datatool manual or download one to fully understand how they operate.
I have read on other forums that the alarm can be affected by strong electrical intererference, tv masts etc. which worries me a bit, but so far all okay.
(Fitted when I bought the bike, no way I would have paid £300)

Again I am referring to the street twin not the bonneville on which the alarm worked perfectly. I have been a biker for the best part of 50 year so I am well aware of the workings of chargers etc.

My 2010 Speed Triple has the Triumph datatool alarm, I think if it gets to around 4 or 5 days of being in the garage without use it would be difficult to start. Luckily I use my bike every day for my commute but now and again needs a top up charge at the weekend
(It could be a slightly buggered battery cell though due to charging at 19v for a while)

A quick update on my Street Twin. Took the bike back to the dealer and they agreed that after three trips back to them for the same issue that they'd remove the alarm and give me the £300 back. No kicking and screaming - sounded like they knew of an issue with it. I'm going to get one of the alarmed disc locks to go with the ground anchor. Any suggestions on the alarmed disc locks? Thanks again for the earlier advice.

Yes, go for the Xena one Dozers Dad is recommending (back on the first page). Brilliant/noisy little thing...... one of my better buys, had it about a year now without any issues/faults.

Recently received a letter from triumph...... there is indeed an issue with the circuitry between the bike and the Datatool alarm. They are recommending a software fix to the bike to sort this problem via the dealer.

Hello. I would appreciate a lot if you can bring in the details you got from the dealer on topic here. I have exactly same problem on my Street twin 2016 which came with pre-installed Triumph (Datatool) alarm. I checked several measurements including charging and draining currency and even with alarm in winter mode I had 33mA draining from battery. I am curious if this is possible to solve if dealer upgrade software of motorcycle? Datatool instrction book claims maximum of 2.5mA in armed condition. See file page 2.. Thanks.
