My experience exactly. Except that I paid the lawyer a long time ago.

But I’ve done this twice in the past—lawyered up, I mean. :)

We tend to mellow w/age… those of us w/any sense, anyway. In addition to that, most of us eventually just accept that retaining a sheister("throwing money at it") to absorb most of the headache is the best way to go.

Get this- The only tickets I've gotten in the better part of the last 2 decades are a couple seat belt violations written by predatory highway patrol cops on side streets looking to fill quotas. Both were somewhat recent. The HP in my state are notoriously petty and indifferent. I've been told, by a cop buddy, that the state's been demanding higher ticket quotas to compensate for the reduced revenue they've been getting over the last year+ due to fewer people on the roads, especially on weekends. This obviously is the result of people staying home because of the Wu-Tang Flu scare. DUIs alone have seen a remarkable drop since early '20.

All tolled it all cost me around 500 bucks in lawyers, fees, fines, and costs, one was reduced to practically nothing on record, the other was tossed because the Wu Tang Flu kept the courthouse closed for so long. "Saved by the Wu Tang."

So--- People play it safe and "do the right thing" under government mandates and advice… Less people out breaking laws... naturally then government ramps up their scrutiny of John Q Citizen in order to replace that lack of income.

You couldn't make this stuff up.

The motorway speed restriction is a proposed trial I think in the area of J33 to J35, i.e where it passes Meadowhall and the large (mainly Asian) population that live very close to the M1. There has been an air quality monitoring station there for a good few years now.

where i live in the states the village uses the tickets for revenue. so when i get busted for driving through town too fast, they give me a choice:

-- mail in $160 for the ticket and take the points on the license

--go to the mayor's court some evening and get him to drop the points and pay the $160 anyway.

the mayor is a decent guy who couldn't care less about social engineering, and i make my living driving commercial trucks, so i care only about getting the points reduced. he gets the money to fix his streets and i mostly just get a reminder to slow down in town so i don't foot his whole budget.
