Out of curiosity has the channel been exhausted by everyone?

Hi guys I am from the Czech Republic and I bought Speed Triple RS (year 2020, 4400 miles - used bike). I have never used the quickshifter even though it is installed there. But the previous owner could...

When I shift (standardly with the clutch) I have never had a false neutral. It is very nice and smooth. BUT - when to shift from 3rd to 4th gear it's not that smooth (it only does it between 3rd and 4th gear). It's very similar to when you shift from 1st to 2nd gear (through neutral). I feel something like a crunch between 3rd and 4th gear. I don't know if it's normal or if it could be damaged by shifting with quickshifter by the previous owner.

I have read the whole forum and I am concerned that the gearbox is damaged and it will get worse!

Sorry to hear this and it is a worry for you.
It is very difficult to say from your description and a dealer would be of no help.
Someone who has had the issue could ride it and tell you if the symptoms are the same but it would be very difficult, if not impossible, for you to find someone. Is there any chance you could trace the original owner and ask if it ever slammed whilst riding and/or why they sold?
You only have two real choices, ride the bike and enjoy it, just accept what comes your way and deal with it if it happens. Alternatively, if you are worried and it is affecting your enjoyment of the bike, simply sell it and move on.
To be honest and knowing what we know about the Triumph QS, I wouldn’t buy one of these used if it has ever had a QS fitted because I too am a worrier.
Hopefully the bike is OK and there’s no cause for concern. If you’re not using the QS, the bike isn’t popping out of gear and/or hitting false neutrals, I wouldn’t expect any “possible” damage to get worse.
I’ve never hit a false neutral on my 1050RS either but it only needs to happen once on full throttle and my gut feeling is that riders get complacent and a little casual with their gear changes and you only need one light tap on the change lever to tempt fate. At least if you do this with a manual change, you will know immediately and pull the clutch again before applying full power.
My Tiger does it and it is truly horrible but would be 10 times worse with a QS.

    Hi there.
    As per alan really.
You can disable the QS in the menu so you don't use it accidentally and you will have to use the clutch.
Probably best thing tbh as damage MAY have been done already.

When I read this forum I immediately disabled the QS and only shift with the clutch. Unfortunately, I don't know if the previous owner used QS and had a false neutral. Except shifting from 3rd to 4th gear there is no problem. The bike isn’t popping out of gear and hitting false neutrals. I'll keep an eye on it to see if it gets worse between 3rd and 4th. Thanks guys.

After such a detailed explanation, I will never again consider QS for purchase... And I had a suggestion. Good thing I decided to look for information :)

That’s kinda sad. I have -22 1200RR, the QS is smooth as one could ever dream of

Call me old fashioned, but l just don't get this quick shifter thing.....what do you actually gain with them on ordinary roads?

OK. You’re old fashioned. It’s really fun, not necessary, and I guess it doesn’t make me much faster or anything. It is just really really fun. Both up and down the gears

They are a bit of fun for sure and for those lazy enough to benefit, do make changes a little less laborious but main pro is straight line acceleration and racing and so for the road, no real actual practical benefit.
I think of the Triumph QS as akin to potholes in an otherwise perfect road - Silky smooth until you hit one. If you concentrate, you can ride around them but sooner or later you’ll score a bulls eye!!

Yes, l suppose l can see the attraction, but to me, changing gear at that speed with the engine still connected to the drive train is a recipe for eventual disaster....OK on race bikes but for regular road bikes, I'm not so sure.

And I absolutely wouldn't disagree which is why I had Triumph fit free TPMS to my Speed Triple and junked the QS!!
Besides, changing gear manually is part of the fun for me which is why I don't drive an automatic car either ;-)

Good to hear you have made progress. As I said previously, I did suspect your gearbox was toast and would need a complete overhaul and so I'm not surprised. You are definitely better off having someone do the work who has done one previously and even more so if relatively recently.
The only thing that I would take with a healthy degree of scepticism is the dealer's reassurance that there is likely nothing wrong with the QS - we all know there very likely is!!!!
This problem just doesn't seem to affect bikes that don't have a QS and we all know about the mayhem which owners have suffered. Your call but . . . . .when you get your bike back, I wouldn't be using the QS anytime soon!!
Good luck with it and I hope they do a good job and fix it properly for you

    Thank you.

First my bike's gearbox is not toast.
Secondly, we don't all believe or know it is the QS causing this problem.
Thirdly, why would I buy something then deprive myself of using an integral aspect of it? When my bike is fixed I shall be using the QS.

If it needs a full rebuild then it sounds like toast to me!

It doesn't need a full rebuild and it's not toast.
Why is the internet populated with to$$ers like you and Gilbert? I thought my experience would be of help to others who have the same or similar issues with their Speed Triples. In view of this I shan't be updating this thread with progress of my bike. My thanks go to the many other contributors who have shared their tales of woe with their bikes and how they got theirs repaired. They have been a great help. My biggest thanks goes to Timboo who contacted me and has given me a whole lot of help. This is what these forums are about when you get past the t0$$ers and bullshitters, other owners passing on advice and suggestions who've had the same or similar problems who just want to help. Thank you to all those and a massive thanks again to Timboo.

Apology accepted soldier. As I said on a number of occasions, I hope you get your bike sorted and you are happy with it.
Likewise, like I said - your call on the QS . . . . if you do continue to use it, I genuinely hope it’s fine and causes no further trouble; there are plenty of owners out there for whom this is the case.
