Well I had a replacement bike from my dealer after 4th gear went completely due to QS problems, ran bike in perfect gearbox faultless and super smooth, then went in for its 500 mile first service and to have its new QS fitted with new arm. used it for a day and low behold 4th gear false neutrals again happened twice.
Going back to dealer to have it removed as its shit and going to do my box again
WTF is going on its a new bike and NEW parts but same problem ???
Very Pissed off now

 

Hiya steve, couldn't tell you buddy wasnt keeping track but what i can say is they were the hardest miles I've done on her since new.
Also adjusted the gear lever slightly down to give my foot better movement, felt like i was moving my leg to change up.

 

Sounds like it more than likely resolved for you. Thank Christ. Yeah I did the same with the lever. Unfortunately the only way to adjust the lever is by pulling it off the output shaft and moving it one tooth, but I found it a little too low. So for me it’s a little too high or a little too low, can’t get it right. When I remove it and have just the rod, I’ll be able to dial it in.

 

This is incorrect and may cause more problems (due to loading angles) and may explain why you continued to have failed shifts.

You can adjust the quick shifter rod length in the EXACT same way as the standard rod.
The only difference being that it’s awkward to get to. But other than that it’s the same.

 

Tread carefully mate, triumph are very specific exact measurements.

 

THAT IS INCORRECT! When you have a quickshifter the rod length has to be an EXACT length, or you will have problems. So that means NO adjustment with the rod length. I was told by my dealer that I could remove the linkage arm and rotate it on the output shaft by a tooth in either direction. Now this is not the best idea either, probably for the reason you mentioned. When I tried that I had already stopped using the quickshifter and was trying to get a better lever position. I rode it for about a half an hour and put it back to the original position, as that position wasn’t great either. With the second gearbox, new quickshifter and revised linkage arm, the arm was always in the original position and I still had the false neutrals. When I get the new rod without a quickshifter, that’s when I said I’ll be able to dial it in.

 

Hmmmm ..... I assumed that Triumph only had the very specific rod length when there was no scallop out of the gearbox arm (to try and ensure that the fouling that was happening wasn't!)

I have therefore adjusted the rod to ensure that it works for me

 

I know Triumph recommend it but does anyone know specifically why it needs to be a certain length?

To be fair I would have just bolted it on, without reading the instructions.
But these are fairly comprehensive with software upgrades as well

 

So it isn't a fixed length.
(Mine was dealer fitted so never looked at fitting instructions)

 

My apologies, I was lead to believe from the dealer and online that it had to be 146.7mm for our bikes. Jesus, the dealers aren’t very helpful at the best of times.

 

I had a new shift rod fitted yesterday and got a chance to look at the old one, although wasn't permitted to take and photos.
I also had the oil replaced just as good practice.

The damage to the part, although small, was very clear and in a very important place. I have not had a single miss shift in the 50 miles I put on the bike yesterday evening.

I have however, also adjusted the shift lever into the most comfortable place for me, something which I believe makes one of the biggest differences to achieving a 'positive' shift since my foot can more comfortably and consistently achieve this than when it is at the standard position.

Its coming off again today and Im going to HM Racing to have their unit setup on the dyno later. I will try and get some video and let you all know the difference

 

All done, HM Quick shifters have been fantastic and got a very good setup on the unit, much better than stock!

It is not 'perfect' and I will continue to develop the setup on the road, if anyone wants the latest setup from my bike, please drop me a PM with your email address and I will send it over.

 

Hallo, my QS works fine, so I do not know what kind of improvement I could exoexp from HM QS. I can change gears from 2,5 to 10 K Rpm with no problems. Greetings from Germany

 

Its fair to say that the issue isnt present on every bike, so would not be worth the upgrade for yourself if you're not looking for that perfect shift.

the HM unit is fully programmable and as such is able to be programmed to suit the exact way that you ride and any nuances of your bike, that would be the benefit for yourself.

 

What specific issue are you talking about that is on every bike?
