Hadn't seen this thread before but it popped up as I checked "Recent Posts" so thought I'd add a rather self-indulgent and personal favourite. This song always reminds me of the year (1988) I spent wandering around the US on a motorcycle - and the numerous times since that I've been back for motorcycle tours there. This song (and a few others) always brings back vivid memories of hitting I-10 east out of southern L.A. - where I stayed, or returned, to 'recharge my human batteries' at my American friend's home before heading out for yet another phase of the adventure. The track evokes a particularly poignant memory of heading to Phoenix on the very first long ride on the (used) Gold Wing GL1200 LE I'd just bought from Laidlaw's HD in Rosemead. It was a ride that caused me something of a sensory overload with the strongest of those overloaded senses being one of taste as I had to constantly swallow, regurgitate and swallow again all the badmouth, disparaging and derogatory words - and there were LOTS - I'd ever uttered about Gold Wings (and their ilk) being "two wheeled cars" not motorcycles! 'Proper bikers' picked bugs out of their teeth, grit out of their eyes and segs off their arses - not namby-pamby sissies sitting in an armchair seat, listening to FM radio or a music cassette - remember them? - on a (very good!) four speaker sound system in an almost windless bubble behind a plexiglass windshield!! PAH! Oh my! A seven hour serving of humble pie topped with the whipped cream of self recrimination laid on a bed of bitter sweet revelation .... memorable indeed! So, that's kind of the story, what's the song? Well, I'll suggest two versions :- the album version and a live version just to prove that the man can cut it in a concert hall as well as he can in a studio! I give you .... Jimmy Barnes' "Driving wheels". Apologies for the long, rambling and, as I said, self indulgent post but, if you're a rocker and a rider, you'll at least enjoy the music! It's the rhythm of the highway ...... RIde safe, all. Regards, Adie
i remember him from his Cold Chisel days, great voice, heres something he did later on with Joe Bonamassa
I’m much too young for this thread it’s all fudyduddy old fart music Hold onto your zimmers boys and girls PS don’t forget to change the water in your glass for your dentures
No need to apologise mate. Tracks with a story I listen to, even if not to my taste. Random links to videos with no explanation just leaves me cold - why should I waste my time if they can't take time to give us a story.
This delicate little number used to fill the empty void of teenage angst-filled self isolation... along with other bedfellows such as Metallica AC/DC Rush etc. Haven’t listened to it in ages...
