The tides around Orkney are fierce. When we came through Scapa Flow we had to anchor in South Ronaldsay to wait for slack tide, in order to avoid the violent colliding tides in the Pentland Firth.

Of course, only being around the corner, Skara Brae and Yesnaby were next.

The bay is just lovely if you're lucky with the weather, like me

Friendly clouds, nothing to worry about :joy:

A quick walk on the beach found these :eyes:

    600ml drink flask for scale.

Any idea what they are, wife and I was thinking some sort of goose barnacle or clam?
Obvious blue part ( mouth?) and black worm like body.

Then up the road to Yesnaby but breakfast calls so I'll post later.
This StreetTwin I think is the ideal Islander bike.
Fast enough on the good bits, torquey, happy pottering and generally great fun.
The suspension upgrades work well, and when set as mine is for two-up, is ideal with camping gear on but a touch hard solo.

    A couple of interesting notes;
For jumping  camping gear balast on the back clearly helps smooth landings  and equalises the weight distribution nicely in mid-flight.
The downside to the above is, :joy: none handed above 40 mph i.e. sorting your gloves out, develops a bit of a speed wobble :scream:
No wobbles with your hands in the right places : unamused: officer!

Post 79 was maybe a little too optimistic
Usb today has gone awol and doesn't want to cooperate any more.
There appears to be only one motor factor on the island, fortunately I'd spotted it a few days ago and placed it in my memory bank.
£37 later I now own another usb socket, a pair of snipe nose pliers and a few electrical bits.
Using the fused optimate charging lead under the left hand side panel, I now have an extension lead with twin usb sockets inside my panniers :p

    20240917_123810.jpg

This gives me a 1A and a 2A supply which can permanently top up the power bank and the phone can be fed off that on coffee stops etc.

They were definitely there back in the early 90's Joe.
This makes it more important that I find my paper copy out and upload it for the kudos

    Referring to my post #80

Here's an alternative view today @Vulpes and @Pegscraper which is 90⁰ anticlockwise to the previous one. It is a fair way away so not easy to make out, but either left or right of the island presents the same challenges.
This view is from the Broch of Gurness.

    20240917_144851.jpg

    In the middle is Eynhallow.
To the right of the pic is the Isle of Rousay

This is the elusive sign, photo taken in 2011 but not by me.

@Eldon Yes our trip was 2004/5. Just at pandemic times. But maybe just us but we did search just to get our pictures by the sign. Childish or what.

I like the simplicity of this shot and that "all the world to myself" feeling.

There are people out there, but with careful cunning timing :p and cropping out the shadows , it allowed me to appear to be the only one in attendance .

Agh but won't you get less holidays working part time?

Yep, book x3 days leave you only have 11 days to please yourself :cool::cool::cool:
