Repair company denying me old parts....

    Well heres the update... The bike is back with me safe and sound and she looks brand new so I can't argue with the delivery standard. I'm away working and the guy that delivered it was good enough to wheel her into the garage and set her up on the stands for my missus and plug it into my optimate.

    As of 1640hrs local time here, I still haven't received an email from the underwriters with regards to the parts that they replaced and if they are going to let me have them back. To be honest, after the runaround and rigmarole I had on Friday afternoon just gone, ringing around various departments etc, I'm not sure if I can face arguing the point with a faceless somebody and may just concede defeat this time.

    Thank you all for your points, arguments, conclusions and topics for debate.

    Very happy you got your bike back and you are happy.
    While it would be good to get the bits back, I htink at this point it would be a futile excersize. You have your bike and in a condition that is as new.

    However, I would really check every bit they replaced, check the wiring and free cable movement. No lose nuts n bolts etc

    I just hope my own claim goes as smoothly, I haven't heard if it is a write off yet or to be repaired...

    Thanks RT... Im home in just over 3 weeks and shes not going anywhere till then (the doris can't ride - she's more 4 wheels than 2 thankfully) so as soon as I get I intend to give her a thorough once over... and the bike ! fnaar fnaar !

    Hope you get some satisfaction on your claim and all goes well for you..

    Lo and behold, I have had a reply... and this is it...

    "Hello Mr *********,


    I have recently received an email from my colleague suggesting you are looking to retain the damaged items of your vehicle and the garage need our authorisation to send them to you.


    Unfortunately, we are not happy to provide the damaged items back to you as there could be potential safety issues down the line which we would be liable for. The garage will be disposing of the damaged parts.

    Safety considerations ?? Hmmm... well its a fairing, an indicator/mirror assembly and a back luggage box that I'm after... oh well... :-(

    This reminds me years ago I had a bumper bash with my vehicle (front end) it was a 320d bmw, I reported it to the insurance, started the tedious process of obtaining quotes for the repair. Fast forward I was contacted by the panel beater to set a date for my vehicle repairs, because I had a hunch that they were chancers I drilled a small 3mm hole on a fold in the bonnet on the side close to the bracket that I knew for certain they would miss if they tried to repair it and be dishonest. Low and behold on the day I had to collect my vehicle the kidney grills upfront immediately showed signs of previous accident damage because the alignment was incorrect. I asked if the bonnet had been replaced as per the agreement and as per the allowance from the insurance and they confirmed that it was indeed replaced with a new one. I did not say anything about the small hole I had drilled and asked again if they were 100% sure that it was replaced and again they said yes it was brand new. Upon asking why the alignment of the grills was so bad they tried convincing me that it was normal and that all bmw's looked liked it. I then asked them to show me the old bonnet to which they replied that the scrap dealer collects parts from them once a week and that the old bonnet was unfortunately alread gone. By now things was heated and several of the workers and even the owner was gathering around my car, an argument ensued between me, the owner and his son and it was then that I revealed the little hole that I had drilled in my defense.They were speechless and caught out. I contacted the insurance and reported them. Vehicle got a new bonnet in the end and grills lined up perfectly. That said not every one is like that and there is good and valid reasons for them keeping old parts much like the reasons provided afore. Just thought I'd share the story. Glad your bike is sorted.

    Ive no problem repairing parts so long as its a 100% good job. This clearly was not.
