And most of that was, apparently, unscripted but impressed Ridley Scott so much he kept it all in. RIP indeed.

That’s exactly the same as the which Dealership debate.
People all have completely different levels of what they expect rather than what they get. If you’re a chilled out type you’re generally satisfied,..

And also remember most people complain but few say it was great, easier to make a complaint than to give compliments

Well what you have to do, old buddy, is make you’re own mind up and not rely on others. Not everyone has the same taste as you. One hotel I looked at someone had given it 1 star because the curtains didn’t match the bed cover, was I bothered? Another gave it 1 star cos the bar stayed open too late!!! If there’s loads saying it’s hot and noisy then that’s probably true, if there’s only one or two then it’s probably a one off

I tend to look at Tripadvisor and just go with the general consensus.
It seems that there are plenty of people who’ll just have a moan and post bad reviews for the slightest little thing. Glad I’m not that grumpy.......well not all the time. :p

Same with dealers - I think local dealer inputs his own reviews because when you speak to people who have been there - nothing tallies.

There are so many variables at work when people write reviews and most of them have been well described in this thread. I was just having a conversation about this very thing with the service manager at my local H-D dealership two days ago. He made a comment similar to Glyn's, that it's often the people who are disgruntled that take the time and energy to write a negative review. Or the customers who expect to get something for free--and as the shop is trying to close up at that.

Another thing that I've observed is that the attitude the customer/consumer brings to the table nearly always has an impact on the service one receives. If someone walks in the door of a hotel or a dealership with a bad attitude and expecting an adversarial relationship, that's often what they'll get in return since relationships are reciprocal. This doesn't make it right...but we are human after all. ;) I was a waitress back in my college days and when someone was unduly demanding or demeaning or rude, it sure didn't make me want to be all cheery and provide even better service.

Now of course that doesn't really hold if a place is really a sh*thole and there are bedbugs in the bed and cockroaches in the loo. Or if a motorcycle dealership does a shoddy job or steers you wrong (no pun intended).

I'm with freck, I look for the general consensus and generally go with that. Especially if there are a number of reviews vs. smaller number. DD, good idea to think about reviews "in reverse". Where have we already stayed, what reviews are there of those places, and do they jibe with our experience?

I never take any notice of reviews.. In my mind in most cases you get what you pay for.. If you book a hotel or a holiday at a bargin price there is a high probabilty that the service will match what you have paid. My old grandad told me many years ago that when looking to buy anything get at least three quotes or options and then decide what you want to pay (and not to always go for the cheapest option).

Like I said, don’t take any notice of reviews. We went to Croatia a couple of years ago. After we had booked a mate did look at the reviews and told me that there were quite a lot of negative ones. Nothing we could do about it and went. The hotel was brilliant, I just wonder sometimes what people expect?

Supermarket car parks. Today went to the supermarket for some bits and pieces.... On the way in a car pulled out across a give way mark on the road, didn't even look. Gave me a dirty look when I nearly ran into him. Bugger me on the way out the same happened. I'm sure these idiots have no idea on what the road markings mean, it is no wonder there are so many acidents on the open road....

Brilliant for paying for fuel when on the bike, leave gloves on, no worries. Used it to fill the KTM this morning:p

Just don't lose your cards , and if you do, cancel it quick smart:cool:

And yes, I think the bank can cancel it. One of my credit cards won't work, even tho it's contactless.
