The sure way of knowing that a charity is getting all that you give is to volunteer. I volunteer my time SERVSSL the Surrey and south london branch of blood bikes. Explanation here
Doesn’t just mean you have to ride a bike or deliver blood, but I know if I deliver a box of blood or plasma it’s going to a new born baby or someone that’s bleeding out on an operating table.

Mael Colum means a follower of St Columba - Anglicised as Malcolm or Callum in Gaelic. Callumity is a wordplay.

OK Stone? (Pierre, Peter or is it Saltpetre?! ......found in detonators, cartridges, fertiliser etc!)

But I definitely need to get a life! Which Para Bn were you? My wife’s uncle was RSM of 3 circa 78/79.

The best "2 Para" 1971/1976 during which I was attached to 16th Independent at Kirton Lindsey (Hew Pike was the Major prior to going back to 3 Para as Colonel) which as I now understand is a large housing estate same fate as Burniston Barracks Scarborough were we used adventure train Signals recruits. I was medically discharged after a serious parachuting accident injuring my right leg (its now approx. 2 inches shorter than my left leg).
Not complaining though as I'm still fairly fit unlike some of my pie arse mates.

Great video and fully support the helicopter crew but if one of our ground troops were to do something similar he would be hauled up in court for not shouting a warning or shooting a terrorist after the event, this I can't understand.

Marvellous! Should be shown on National television nightly along with the news. Oh dear, then we will have the do gooders/pacifists up in arms screaming about human rights., what about the rights of the innocent victims Manchester comes to mind. As I'm ex Military and ex HM Prisons office (before all the private prison G4 shit and away days when they took the cons to court) I speak from experience. These lowlife scumbags hide behind women and children and don't have the bollocks to face up to Soldiers, not that it will ever happen but I would love to see these tossers up against 40/42/45 Commando,1/2 or 3 Para or any Squadron from the Regiment.
I just know the lads would have, excuse the pun, a field day live target practise! I wish.
Rant over back to the beer.

    Thanks DD much appreciated.
True story ( I'm ex Para, and 18 years HM Prisons, with keys I might add).
The other week my mate (ex RN and Psychiatric nurse) were in the pub chatting as you do with a mixed group some a lot younger than us. The subject of,in my opinion, the 15 minutes of fame seeker who a few months ago married Charles Salvador ( real name Michael Peterson then Charles Bronson) came up. A young girl 30 ish was saying how unfair it is to keep him in jail for all this time and that he should be released.
I said to her have you ever met him? she replied no. I then related a true story of when I was at HMP Liverpool in the early 80,s.
    This is the tale.
I was due to relieve the P.O. In charge of F yard exercise for his break I don't remember the exact date or time but it was midweek and around 3pm. As I unlocked the gate to access F yard Nicky as he was then ran across the yard jumped across a gap approx 12 feet to grab the drainage pipe that runs from the ground up to the roof (It's cemented from ground level to 1st floor), he then climbed to the 5 th floor approx 85/90 ft up. He sat on a window ledge for about 5 minutes then stood in the ledge leaned out to the coping stone hung by his fingers and pulled himself into the roof.
If I hadn't witnessed it I would not have believed it. Cut to the chase, Charlie not did around a Million quids worth of damage to H wing roof, was up there for 3 days and eventually got 3 more years for his trouble.
Since then it's the violence against staff hostage taking etc.
The face on this girl was a picture like most people she had no idea just what these characters are really like, this is a man who can do 100 press ups without losing his breath or breaking a sweat. The comical part of the tale is that a Governor grade decided that he could be moved from the seg unit (against our advice) to normal location 3 days before he climbed into the roof.
It's a sad fact of life that the public never get to know the full truth, I dread to think how much it's cost to keep him in jail in a segregation unit for what 33/35 years now.
Thank heaven we're all info bikes.

I moved this cos it became a rant.

I am from a rural area, people here need buses, some dont have cars some one car per family. Buses are not a choice for the majority of users, they are the only option. I can see the point of moving people on to less hungry modes of transport small bikes, mass transit.
The problem is like everything, Taxes, Transport, Energy, its not the ideas ( you and me in the pub on a Saturday can come up with usable strategies) its the not having the balls to implement them, that and the committee mentality, ( everyones got there own agenda and top of the list is holding on to position,)same reason I wouldnt join a club, bike, bowling, tennis, fing commitees. Bureaucracy, so our pub idea gets trimmed and expanded and negotiated measured and checked, It now bears no resemblance to how it started

    . Heres an example.

Aberdeen has an old bypass that has been over run and so is now being replaced with the Western Peripheral Route, this is fantastic and will cut journey times for all, ease commuting, and increase safety.
At the bottom of the old bypass is the "second busiest roundabout in the UK" and there have also been tail backs further out for years because of the lack of bridges across the Don.
    Still following this? Good.
The Scottish government is funding the W.P.R.
For years the local council has tried to sort the roundabout.
The UK government has been looking in to the new bridge proposal.
Also various European bodies and grants.

So, the new W.P.R. opens in two months. Hurrah
Last year a separate bridge opened over the Don. Oh.
There are at the moment 200 empty flats beside the roundabout because after 30 years, the council have got permission to build an easement that requires the demolition of all these flats.
The bridge is not required cos of the W.P.R.
The roundabout restructure is not required because of the W.P.R.

Why build one thing when bureaucracy can mess up, long enough and badly enough, too make us all pay for two more superfluous structures that are gazumped
Thats how things get done .:)

It's called Public school education ( not sure why when you have to pay for it!) And the Tossers who went there have, over the years, created a nice little niche with all sorts of perks guaranteed that come with the ( misnomer) job. All you have to do is have the ability to look sincere when being interviewed by the media whilst you are lieing through your teeth, the job title is Member of Parliament.
Even if you turn out to be absolutely useless at the task and eventually have to resign or not get 're elected you will walk into a highly paid very little hours/effort piece of cake position. Tory Blair Cameron Osbourne etc.
