As a general disclaimer there might have been an element of Thatchers and Talisker involved in the composition of the rant but the general point remains. The 7 stone loss should have said 6 (i went from 16st 13llbs to 10st 10llbs) for the record im 5 11 1/2 (the 1/2 is exceedingly important!) and when getting below 11 1/2 stone tend to look a bit skinny. I can carry up to about 15st without looking too big but i know I am by how i feel. 5 years ago i decided to tackle the issue once and for all and throw out any pair of trousers with a waist above 34" and any other clothing above "medium" on the basis that if clothes were too tight that was the call to be proactive rather than grab something more comfortable.

Having said that, am i sorry i wrote it? No.
Are the vast majority of fat people in denial? Yes
Do the vast majority of fat people think its not affecting their health? Yes
Do the rest of us have to ultimately pay for their unhealthy lifestyles through the NHS and taxation? Yes
Are an extremely large amount of people who say they have medical problems and cannot lose weight bullshitting? Yes (Even the NHS says if you have a genuine medical condition that causes you to gain weight control what you eat).

Eat less, move more should be educated into kids from a young age. There is a secondary school at the top of my road, there are teenagers coming out of there every day that weigh far more than i ever have. A lifetime of misery awaits them and a drain on the rest of society into the bargain.

The town next to ours has so many extremely fat people it beggars belief. I even have my 91 year old mother saying oh look someone from XX when she sees a massive person. The Morrisons i was at yesterday is there, to get there i have to pass a Fire Station and Ambulance station next to each other. Lots of people were gathering for their "clap for the NHS" and they were getting the fire engines and ambulances lined up. There was a feckin burger van there for god's sake. The incongruity of this set the thoughts in motion and was the motivation for the post. Said town often has the main road at a standstill as the McDonalds drive though only has a queue lane about a 1/4 mile long and that isnt long enough. I dread to think what it will be like after lockdown. I just checked and the 2019 population is 27603. From memory there is ..
    McDonalds with drive through
2 x Greggs (yes 2 both with queues at at all times)
    Dominos
    Papa Johns
    4 x chip shops
    4 x kebab shops
    2 x kebab vans
    3 x burger vans
This is just the fast food outlets i can think of in the town limits and doesn't even count other fast food outlets within walking distance (for me perhaps not them) outside the town limits or the many Restaurants and Pubs serving food also. The Wetherspoons is always full from early in the morning. The market is clearly there (or normally is). If i had my time again I would invent a food that the masses can shove in their gobs with little effort, a deep fried, liquified, pastry of some sort full of sugar and MSG would be a winner.

If you asked any of these huge feckers if they had a takeaway often or only as a treat. I bet you a pound to a penny the majority would say as a treat. Their idea of a treat being, breakfast lunch and dinner.

I'm afraid my views on obesity have got me in trouble many times. I once got disciplined at work (in the late '80's so not even in these pc times) for telling a girl at work who must have weighed about 20 stone a home truth or two about her eating habits which i witnessed on a daily basis when she claimed she was fat because of a glandular problem. The only glandular problem she had was an undying love for Cornish pasty company pasties and crisps (2-3 pasties a day and multiple bags of crisps at work alone). Refusing to apologise for telling the truth was deemed to be at least as bad as telling it in the first place.

Its denial, over eating and lack of exercise. There is no excuse.

I’m sorry I object to this phrase. It’s a blatant case of sexism!

It is fairly standard but unfortunately still uses the flawed BMI system : unamused:: unamused:
BMI states over 30 to 35 is obese, 35 to 40 is severely obese and above 40 is morbidly obese :confused:
However this does not take into account body composition and I know many man mountains (gym queens) who using the BMI definition would be considered morbidly obese, a far better way to define obesity is using Percentage Body Fat where 25% is the magic figure (increasing with age) ;);)
None of these should be used in isolation however as they cannot take into account all variables, but if you use a combination of methods you can see a better picture of the obesity problem :cool:

Food has VAT... if you eat more of it, you’re paying more into the government coffers!!! That why smoking isn’t banned, 82% of the cost is taxation... we all need to eat, drink and smoke more to give the nurses a pay rise!!!

Equality of opportunity is all you can hope to achieve because inequality inevitably flows from how individuals use their opportunity. If you destroy incentives you destroy wealth creation and then we are all equally poor - a pretty lousy equality.

By the same token you cannot escape personal responsibility for your weight unless you have a rare medical condition. Most overweight people simply eat/drink far too much carbohydrate: wheat, sugar, potato, etc. We need some for energy but for millennia we could not rely on the next meal. Consequently we convert carbs to fat as an energy store. Overdo it and you cease being energetic! The problem is not the burger and lettuce leaf but the bun and fries.......

Don’t get me started on the mythologising of the NHS as an effective institution.

    not strictly true...
“you may know that some foods are zero rated and some are standard rated, for example, cakes are zero-rated (0% VAT charged) and biscuits are standard rated (20% VAT charged). But do you know that regardless of whether it’s zero or standard rated, if you want to eat food inside the café or restaurant in which you purchased it you will be charged VAT.
And do you know that if it’s served above ambient room temperature then even if you take it away you will be charged VAT.”

It's been interesting reading this thread, "Me" I'm 6ft 4" and built like a brick shit house and crack coconuts with the cheeks of my arse, my avator has me to a "T" a life of weight lifting and rugby and I could eat one spud more than a pig when young and in mill training if I ever went to a chippy after training I would ask for chicken and chips, chicken breast or leg the girl would ask "No chicken" I would say pointing to a whole roast on a spit.
But as you get older and less active then you can't eat as much I am still big and heavy but my medical each year gives my. cholesterol as 4.2 the BMI says i'm a fat barsteward but i am just BIG.
