I wasn't sure what thread to post these recent critter photos in so went with the randomness of this one.

This Coopers Hawk was sitting on the table in our backyard this past Monday tearing into a little ground squirrel. We happened to glance out the window and there he (or she?) was. I managed to get these shots on my iPhone by putting it up as close to the window as possible. I don't know if the hawk saw us but it sat there quite a long time before picking up its prey and flying off.

This butterfly was fascinated by my friends flower-designed dress when she and I were sitting outdoors on a patio sipping happy hour cocktails a couple of nights ago. Even if she or I shooed it away, it came right back and landed on her shoulder again and again.

The first two critters were magnificent and beautiful, although the dead rodent wasn't looking too good. This third critter was a different story. This was found dead (thankfully!) near Ellie, the Boxer's dog food supply this morning. I made sure to take a photo so I could check in with our pest control provider to see whether this is one of the highly poisonous varieties of scorpions or a more benign one. Ellie was the one who found it so I was really glad that it was already dead when we both saw it. And I'm hoping it doesn't have any buddies lurking about. Makes me inclined to look inside all my shoes before putting them on!

In our case two warped and idiotic minds, that for one fleeting moment thought vaguely the same thing - one with a posh southern twatish drawl, the other in an incomprehensible Scottish babble.

A statistical anomaly never, ever, ever to be repeated.

I also speak perfect English, and you are positing an entirely false dichotomy in our relative linguistic skills.

I'm not sure I like that last phrase. It could be misunderstood...

    Back to thread…

I took my 78 year old mother out canoeing after a few years absence (reasons not being discussed) and she was made up!!!

Another damp day in Cornwall, so dug out a few more pics from our States visit.
This time it's the Oregon/NoCal coast (before we get to the Redwoods next time)
