Worth a visit then Jack? I could compare it to the view from the top of Salisbury cathedral which certainly IS worth a visit - the engineering inside that tower and spire is fantastic.

Durham is lovely, been there many times when my wife was in the hotel industry. Stayed at the Three Tuns a couple of times and also the Marriott. Some nice pubs and restaurants, can recommend the Thai overlooking the river.

Yes, a great long weekend or midweek break city. We also drove out to Middleton in Teesdale to see the two waterfalls.

Also took the long way back via Hartside Pass (no pics) the road from Middleton to Alston was a blinder, absolutely no one on it. It was even fun in my Astra estate :grinning:

I snapped this photo a few days ago. This is only a few blocks from our house and, believe it or not, is pretty much right smack in the middle of Tucson which has a population of 554,000 and a metro area population of 1,000,000! This photo was taken at the southwest corner of the University of Arizona's Campus Agricultural Center. As someone who grew up on a farm, I love living near this place which we simply call the UA Farm. My dad passed nearly 20 years ago but he would simply love that his daughter lives so near a "farm". :) Those are the Santa Catalina Mountains in the background.

Yesterday decided to have a go at dodging the tourist chaos down here and get out for a walk.

Nice ones. We were up that way earlier in the Summer - were supposed to go last year but something came up. It's a great place - almost as good as Yorkshire ...

Rhosili (or Rhossili). The "island" is the Worm's Head. This can be reached by a causeway at low tide. The wreck is that of the "Helvetia", a Norwegian barque carrying 500 tons of timber from New Brunswick (Canada) to Swansea. She was wrecked on the beach during bad weather on 1st November 1887. No lives were lost and the cargo was auctioned off to local traders.

Whiteford Lighthouse. The only surviving inter-tidal cast-iron lighthouse in the UK. Built in 1865, it is almost 14 metres high. It is now derelict.

I'm kinda into monochrome at the moment.

I had to rapidly re-read the first eight words. Thankfully I had read it wrong the first time. Phew…

Another slow dull day in Cornwall (what happened to summer?), so back to my West Coast tour USA style, Crater Lake....

Wow! This place is fantastic! As are your photos, @Col_C. I've never been to Crater Lake but now I'm compelled to add to my bucket list. Darn. ;):joy: One of Mr. Sandi's good friends has been there and loves it. I'm not sure if he rode there, though. It is quite a journey but that's what riding--and life--are all about. :)

Only managed to visit your country twice - '99 & '14 (plus one short business trip to Houston), but we were blown away by the glorious scenery on both occasions. The '99 trip took in San Francisco - Yosemite - Grand Tetons - Yellow Stone, all simply stunning, I still have this image in my head of John Wayne riding across the planes at the Tetons in "True Grit" style, brings it all to life. :)
Sadly that trip pre-dates my digital photography and my treasured photo album doesn't scan too well, still have the remainder of our '14 Seattle - San Francisco trip to go though. A few Oregon coast, Redwoods and SF yet to come.
I try not to hog this thread too much, just drip feed them in when it goes a bit quiet. :)
