That bloody blanking plug! I've just finished my installation, and like you, that took me about 15 minutes to get off. Poxy thing!
It's definitely worth taking the bars off though, made life much easier...
Test ride tomorrow, let's see how cold my fingers get.

 

Oh yes, that bloody blanking plug. A matter of seconds now we're wiser! I only had to rotate the bars to do up the lower holding screw on the left hand grip; threading the cables through the bars was not a problem. Like you, I'll test them out tomorrow.

 

Had a full day’s riding yesterday with the temperature about 11C wearing perforated summer gloves. The new grips worked well. On the warm setting, my 67 year old hands were nice and warm. Tried the hot setting briefly but that was too much. So, I’m happy with them.

I had a similar experience, a great ride out for a lovely breakfast, summer gloves, and my left hand was warm as toast. Unfortunately my right hand wasn't! I'll have to check the connections and then I may have to contact TriumphWorld which might mean I have to take it all off again, bugger!

So, just a thought, but if you're going to be fitting a set of the Triumph grips, I would start by taking of the side panel, plugging the harness in, and connecting the grips to check that everything is working before carrying out the full installation.

 

Good idea. How do you find the thickness of the grips. Some say they are on the thin side.

I had no issues, they felt the same as the standard ones to me.

 

The same for me. Didn’t notice any difference.

 

They are the same as the originals but no where near as thick as the oxford ones. Also, definitely 3 heat settings and not two!

 

Yes, three if you count “off”! My new ones cycle through off, hot and warm.

So, I can report that removal is a lot easier than fitting!
I tested both grips with a circuit tester and they both seemed ok. Swapped the grips over and found that the left lead still worked but the other stayed cold, which was irritating 'cos it would have been simple to swap a new throttle grip in. There must be a break somewhere in the wiring.
Once you know what goes where, taking it apart is much simpler. Having said that, the connection to the loom still managed to have me swearing and drawing blood!
I'll give Triumph World a call tomorrow and see what they can do about a replacement...

By the way Steve RS, I think the RS grips may have 3 heat settings (as well as off) but the older R grips have only 2.

I’ve got a quickshifter sat here, waiting to be fitted. I’ll post how the fitting goes when I get round to doing it.
