Drop them in a warm bath of molasses ! Keep the mix/bath somewhere warm 20° or so , bacteria will react with the sugars and rust ! You will end up with near new clean guards !
Old Australian Farmer's trick ! Discovered by accident ! Some one dropped
A cruddy chrome metal part in a trough of molasses for their sheep ! When the trough was nearly empty the part was Highly visible as it was then shiny bright ! Australia being nice and warm nearly all year !
The appropriate mix is stronger rather than weaker , but needs the water ! So 40% molasses or so :sun::bomb:

Wow that’s some interesting way of discovering a gem. I’m always looking for accidental and unheard of ways of doing stuff. I really like that and I’ll try that in my next need.

Just don't use the molasses to bake a cake afterwards. ;)

A £1 tub of the "The pink stuff" from B&M and the wife's toothbrush worked really well on the forty nine year old tank badges today.

I think you'll agree he's done a fantastic job. Anyone guess who did it ?
I'll give you a couple of clues.
He's a member of this forum and he's got a reputation as being a tight Yorkshireman but he's not really.

Very nice, I would be delighted with that, Andy.

P.S. You best hurry, they seem to time these things on here, mate.
