It's never nice and never easy to love a much loved pet - they are, after all, a family member. You clearly gave him as much love as he gave you so be thankful that you shared such a wonderful and happy life together. Remember the happy times and the sadness will fade away.

The best thing to remember is that he was loved, and he will have known it.

 

So sorry for your loss. They are such amazing loving animals, and unfortunately with us for far too short a time. I lost my Lab about 3 years ago, and my Stafford in January. The pain of losing them is immense, and the memories they leave are treasures.

 

I am so very sorry for the loss of your beloved friend, Celt, chiari1. You are right when you say it does not get any easier. Our beloved dogs are our family and they love more unconditionally than any of us humans ever could. Celt knows how loved he was. I know from experience how heart-breaking it is to make the decision you did. But you did it out of love for him. Now he's on the Rainbow Bridge, happy and healthy, playing with his friends, and waiting for you to arrive one day. My heart is with you in your grief.

 

Oh, no. I'm sure that your heart is breaking for her, Red Thunder. I know how hard it is when your furry best friend is hurting and you can't fix it. I hope that you can get her in to the vet right when they open and that the vet can make it right. Please let us know how it goes.

 

Last year Pippy slipped on the kitchen floor. She was yelping & whimpering so much for so long I rushed her to the vets as an emergency patient. Bugger me as soon as she was placed on the examination table, completely back to normal. £60 later . Little fecker,but she is lovely.

 

You’re lucky Ken. One of our cats popped his knee out fighting with his sister and cost us over £500 as an emergency case, with an overnight stay

 

And the sad news just keeps coming. Just heard that the brother of Jojo and Zéro (our 2) has just passed away. Luke was the eldest of the three and sadly just sort of wasted away over the last year, ending today.

Well his pain is now over and I'm as certain as I can be that he is chasing some cat/chicken or other small creature across the skies in heaven.

Putting down a dog is very tough and tragic. We fortunately have an 75 year old "highly experienced vet" that will see us anytime between 6:00 am to midnight. Who only still serves 10-12 clients. While vacationing in Europe our Chihuahua started having siezures and took him to the 24/7 emergency vet, $900 of medical tests and recommend to put him down. Doc arrived on a flight back late that evening and told us to make sure his night was comfortable and stress free, come in around 6:00 am. He poked and prodded the dog and announced that he had a brain disconnect. Gave us fenabarbutal (sp) to give him for till the brain reconnected, siezures stopped whithin a few hours and within a few doped up weeks he was back to normal. That was 6 years ago. I ask the Doc how much? He said that will be $20, I always pay him in cash at 5x what he asks, no receipt or record. None needed! BTW this 2-3 lb white Chihuahua is named Monterey Jack and likes to park his butt in my left hand palm and lay back on my forearm. Never the right hand. This is priceless.

 

So sorry to read about Luke's passing, biglad. Yes, I'm sure he's happily chasing some sort of creature across the big meadows in heaven. I'm sure Luke knew full well how loved he was.

 

Thank you all for your supportive messages. It feels particularly poignant for me as I delivered them at home 12 yrs ago, so I've seen Luke come into the world and now seen him depart. Our dogs are our children and we live very closely together so waking up this morning and knowing I'll never seen Luke again is tough on both Wend and I.

 

Chairi1 & Dave sorry to hear about your losses,it is hard to lose our four legged friends,i'm sure you both have lots of happy memories of them

 

I agree with all before me - just hard to put the loss of such a long time companion into words.
I feel your pain.

We have always had Spaniels from pups right to old age, very lively, and sometimes prone to injury, csj do a lot of herbal supplements, one in particular we use as the dogs age, or if they suffer an injury, is the product called "No ake". Its really good stuff, seems to help well with aging stiffness. Literally a pinch in the food every day.

Quite a lot of other products... Some funny names, like "Billy no mates" an anti flea treatment, for example. Check them out. We have had stuff off them for years.

 

The Lord be praised - I WAS worried...

 

I should hope so - I've just taken a daftness course at great expense!
