We don't have any pets (although I have had two dogs in the past). However, we are registered as trusted house sitters so get to stay in the house and look after pets when owners are away.
Currently in Meonstoke looking after Buttons for the second time.

What a fantastic way of continuing your doggy contact. I love the faces on Buttons and the boxer - have a bit of a weakness for them since being a young lad.

I love Rogan, had a couple of Collies, both as faithful as the days long!
All the dogs on here are lovely, sod the bikes, lets have a dog show!

Rogan is lovely - we've had two collies as well - Genie & Bella. Bella was the mummy of our current collie/lab crosses.

As HO says collies are very faithful dogs.

    Great news!
She will reward you for ever more!
Some thing really special and satisfying in rescuing a dog.
    Good luck with her mate.

Our rescued lab Jackie. She was about seven when we got her seven years ago. All we knew about her was she was rescued from a council pound (death row in other words) somewhere in south Wales. A bit nervy for several years and instantly violent towards other dogs we got used to avoiding the huge park on our doorstep and sticking to the roadside pavements. The trainers we went to all basically said something fundamentally bad had happened to her, possibly over a number of years, in her past and her attitude to other dogs was unlikely to ever change. She calmed a lot in later life and was a happy to wander along at a slow pace sniffing every blade of grass she came across.

She was without doubt Lady Poppy's dog and followed about the house like a shadow and when we lost her in April it was a real wrench to us both. Our daughter was on a uni trip to China and it was terrible telling her when she was so far away but she guessed something was up from our tone of voice.

Enjoy your mutts while you have them. We miss Jackie every day and still cannot bear to put her basket in the loft. Having it in the kitchen somehow feels more respectful. [/soppy]

Take the plunge and give another needy dog a home, its good for 'it'
Haha, lovely, something happens at Christmas, even the dogs can dress up! 145.jpg
This was our 3 legged Grey Oscar Charlie getting into the spirit of things,
    146 (2).jpg
with our 2nd collie Deefa Dog, boy could she demolish a Christmas dinner in minutes!
Both sadly departed now but not forgotten, none of them ever will be, but taking in those that need a home really helps with the sadness of the time!

Bad day today I had my oldest springer put to sleep today.

Alice was 14 last February and her quality of life was diminishing.

Had her since she was a pup and trained her myself,as I do with all my dogs. I know that we often say when we lose a dog that they were the best we've had but she really was, being the most intelligent, easily trained, soft natured and rock steady working dog I've owned. Always eager to please and never jibbed at any task irrespective of how foul the weather was.

I've still got one of her daughters, Fizzy who's 11 and still very fit. She'll miss her mum and is already wondering around the garden and kennels looking for her. Sad.

Hello Dave, very sorry to hear about Alice. When you've had a dog all that time it's gut-wrenching to do what has to be done, but it's the right thing all the same. Focus on all the happy times mate and pour your love into Fizzy as she'll need you now.

My sincerest commiserations to you and Fizzy for your loss.

Very sorry to see this Dave, it's all very distressing for all at the time, other dogs as well as us, I know, J've had to go through it several times and having to face up to it X2 during the next year or so.
At least she had a full innings, and a brilliant life, that's all you can do!
